The Opportunity

A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a Director of Out-of-School Time Programs to lead and strengthen a portfolio of school-based after-school programming. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role for an outcome-oriented program professional who can translate strategy into consistent execution across multiple locations.

The Director will oversee program operations, coach site-based leaders, strengthen relationships with schools and community stakeholders, and help build a healthy, safe, and engaging environment for middle school students. The organization is looking for a resourceful, collaborative leader who can see the big picture while remaining closely connected to day-to-day program delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight to site coordinators operating across multiple school-based locations.

  • Guide program planning, staffing, daily operations, and effective use of funding and site resources.

  • Coach and develop program staff, promoting accountability, consistency, and high-quality execution.

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and lesson plans for out-of-school time programming.

  • Manage and strengthen existing relationships with school partners, city stakeholders, and community organizations.

  • Build new partnerships that expand program resources, reach, and impact.

  • Monitor program outcomes and translate organizational strategy into measurable results.

  • Travel regularly among program sites to remain connected to staff, students, and school partners.

  • Help create safe, supportive, and engaging environments for participating students.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; a master's degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field is preferred.

  • Approximately 5-7 years of experience leading out-of-school time, after-school, youth development, education, or closely related programming.

  • Demonstrated experience overseeing programs across multiple locations or school-based sites.

  • Experience supervising and coaching staff responsible for working directly with children or young people.

  • Proven ability to develop and implement curriculum, program plans, and lesson plans.

  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with school leaders, public-sector stakeholders, community partners, staff, and students.

  • Outcome-oriented approach with strong leadership, problem-solving, and operational execution skills.

  • Resourceful, relatable, and collaborative leadership style.

  • Ability to travel regularly throughout the program's service area and remain available during core after-school program hours.

  • Ability to complete required background and screening processes for a school-based environment.

Schedule and Work Environment

This is a full-time, primarily field-based leadership role with regular travel among school sites and some office-based work. The anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with availability required during after-school program hours.

Benefits

Compensation

The anticipated starting salary is $80,000+, commensurate with experience.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Autonomy to lead and shape a growing program function.

  • Opportunity to build a department and strengthen programming across multiple sites.

  • Meaningful work supporting young people, schools, and Philadelphia communities.

  • A collaborative environment that values initiative, resourcefulness, and measurable impact.

The organization is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes candidates from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
