About the Role:

As the Deputy Manager – Product Development at IIDE Mumbai, you will own the technical execution of IIDE's product engineering function and lead a team of frontend and backend engineers.

You will be responsible for taking products from business requirements and technical design through development, testing, deployment, and production. The role involves overseeing IIDE's product ecosystem, including the Learning Management System (LMS), Student and Admin Portals, public websites, backend services, APIs, internal applications, and third-party integrations.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role requiring strong technical depth, product thinking, delivery ownership, and people leadership. You will work closely with Product, Design, Technology, Marketing, CRM, Operations, and Business teams to build scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable technology products.

What You'll Do:

● Product Engineering Leadership:

○ Own engineering execution across IIDE's product development portfolio.

○ Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to frontend and backend engineers.

○ Establish engineering standards, coding practices, and development processes.

○ Review technical designs, architecture, and implementation approaches.

○ Ensure engineering decisions balance scalability, maintainability, security, performance, and delivery timelines.

○ Build a culture of ownership, accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.

○ Act as the technical escalation point for complex engineering challenges.

● Product & Project Delivery:

○ Own end-to-end technical delivery across multiple concurrent product initiatives.

○ Convert business and product requirements into clear technical execution plans.

○ Break requirements into epics, modules, technical tasks, and development milestones.

○ Estimate engineering effort and identify technical dependencies.

○ Plan resources and assign work across the engineering team.

○ Track delivery progress, risks, dependencies, blockers, and milestones.

○ Work with Product and Business stakeholders to manage scope and technical trade-offs.

○ Ensure releases are delivered on time without compromising engineering quality.

● LMS & Product Platform Engineering:

○ Take technical ownership of IIDE's Learning Management System, Student Portal, Admin Portal, public websites, backend services, APIs, internal business applications, third-party integrations, and future technology initiatives.

○ Play a key engineering role in the ongoing LMS rebuild using a modern technology stack.

○ Ensure platform architecture can scale with IIDE's growing student and business requirements.

● Architecture & System Design:

○ Design and review scalable application architectures across frontend, backend, APIs, and databases.

○ Review database schemas, data models, queries, API contracts, and integration patterns.

○ Evaluate technical approaches and recommend appropriate solutions.

○ Identify architectural risks, technical dependencies, and scalability challenges early.

○ Drive improvements in reliability, maintainability, application performance, and security.

○ Establish appropriate authentication and authorization patterns.

○ Identify and reduce technical debt.

○ Ensure important architectural decisions are properly documented.

● Engineering Quality & Production Reliability:

○ Establish and enforce code review standards.

○ Ensure appropriate unit, integration, API, regression, and release testing practices.

○ Review release readiness before production deployments.

○ Improve application reliability and production stability.

○ Own engineering-side incident investigation and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).

○ Drive preventive actions following production incidents.

○ Improve observability, logging, and monitoring practices.

○ Maintain documentation for critical systems and engineering processes.

● Technology Ownership:

○ Lead engineering teams working across Java, Spring Boot, Angular, TypeScript, Next.js, React.js, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, REST APIs, PostgreSQL, Git, and GitHub.

○ Guide teams on software architecture, system design, database design, API design, authentication and authorization, integrations, microservices, caching, CI/CD, containers, cloud infrastructure, performance, and web security.

○ Evaluate technologies based on their engineering and business value rather than adopting tools without a clear use case.

○ Provide technical guidance across the stack without needing to personally be an expert in every technology.

● Website & Technical Performance:

○ Ensure IIDE's Next.js websites follow modern engineering and performance practices.

○ Work with Marketing and SEO teams to implement technical SEO requirements.

○ Monitor and improve Core Web Vitals and frontend performance.

○ Ensure applications are optimized for scalability, performance, and user experience.

○ Ensure technical implementation supports crawlability, indexing, and other SEO requirements.

● Engineering Team Management:

○ Conduct sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and engineering reviews.

○ Mentor developers through technical guidance and regular feedback.

○ Conduct code and architecture reviews.

○ Identify skill gaps and create development plans for team members.

○ Support technical hiring, interviews, and onboarding.

○ Define clear ownership and responsibilities across the engineering team.

○ Improve team productivity without compromising engineering quality.

○ Build a strong culture of ownership, accountability, and problem-solving.

● Cross-functional Collaboration:

○ Work closely with Product, Design, Marketing, CRM, Operations, and Business teams.

○ Understand business problems before proposing technical solutions.

○ Communicate technical constraints, dependencies, timelines, and trade-offs clearly.

○ Partner with Product stakeholders on technical feasibility and solution design.

○ Ensure engineering priorities remain aligned with business priorities.

○ Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

● Continuous Improvement:

○ Identify opportunities to improve engineering productivity and development processes.

○ Automate repetitive engineering and deployment processes wherever possible.

○ Improve development, testing, release, and deployment workflows.

○ Reduce technical debt and recurring production issues.

○ Evaluate new technologies where they provide meaningful business or engineering value.

○ Encourage responsible adoption of AI-assisted development tools.

○ Continuously improve system scalability, reliability, maintainability, and engineering efficiency.

● Additional Duties:

○ Monitor technical risks and proactively resolve issues that could affect delivery or platform reliability.

○ Contribute to future product and technology initiatives as IIDE's engineering ecosystem expands.

○ Perform any other reasonable duties as requested by management, aligned with the broad scope of the position.

Requirements

Who You Are:

● Must-Have:

○ 5–7 years of software engineering experience.

○ At least 1–2 years of experience leading engineers, projects, or technical initiatives.

○ Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.

○ Strong understanding of Angular and modern frontend development.

○ Experience working with REST APIs and PostgreSQL.

○ Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, and database design.

○ Experience delivering production applications used by real users.

○ Experience managing multiple concurrent engineering initiatives.

○ Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and release management.

○ Experience with code reviews, debugging, production issue resolution, and incident management.

○ Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

○ Strong ownership and problem-solving mindset.

○ Ability to balance product requirements, engineering quality, and delivery timelines.

○ Ability to mentor developers and improve overall team capability.

● Should Have:

○ Strong understanding of API design, authentication and authorization, third-party integrations, microservices architecture, caching, application performance, CI/CD, Docker and containerisation, cloud infrastructure, and web security.

○ Experience establishing engineering standards, testing practices, monitoring, logging, and release processes.

○ Experience working in product companies, SaaS companies, EdTech, FinTech, high-growth technology companies, or startups with complex web platforms.

○ Experience working with large-scale internal or customer-facing applications.

○ Experience building or managing LMS, ERP, CRM, SaaS platforms, marketplaces, portals, or other multi-module business applications.

● Nice to Have:

○ Experience with Node.js, MongoDB, Redis, message queues, or event-driven architecture.

○ Exposure to AWS, Azure, GCP, DigitalOcean, or similar cloud platforms.

○ Experience with monitoring and logging platforms.

○ Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.

○ Experience contributing to or leading large-scale platform modernization or rebuild initiatives.
