International Trade (Export Controls) Partner-level Opportunity (Wash., DC/NoVA)

A respected and growing national law firm is seeking an experienced Partner-level Export Controls attorney to join and help expand its Washington, DC-area practice. The position may be based in Washington, DC or Northern Virginia.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience advising U.S. and international companies on sophisticated export controls, economic sanctions, trade compliance, and related national security matters. The attorney will join an established national platform with opportunities to collaborate across complementary regulatory, transactional, government contracts, and national security practices.

Representative Experience

Candidates should have significant experience in several of the following areas:

• U.S. export controls, including the EAR and ITAR
• Economic sanctions and OFAC compliance
• Export licensing and regulatory strategy before the Departments of Commerce, State, and Treasury
• Internal investigations involving potential export control or sanctions violations
• Voluntary self-disclosures and related regulatory matters
• Development and implementation of export control and sanctions compliance programs
• Cross-border transactions involving trade and national security considerations
• CFIUS reviews, filings, transaction risk assessments, and regulatory strategy
• Counseling clients regarding evolving U.S. trade and national security regulations

Qualifications

The firm is particularly interested in an experienced attorney with a strong substantive background in export controls and international trade, demonstrated client-development capabilities, and an interest in continuing to grow a practice within a collaborative national law firm environment.

A portable practice of at least $600,000 is required.

Candidates should possess strong client-management, analytical, written, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across practice areas on complex regulatory and transactional matters.

Compensation

Competitive base compensation commensurate with experience and practice, together with a performance-based compensation structure. Actual compensation will depend upon experience, qualifications, portable business, market considerations, and other relevant factors.
