Job Role: Cleaning Supervisor (Maternity Cover)
Contract Type: 9–12 Month Fixed-Term Contract
Contracted Hours: Average 42 hours per week
Shift Pattern: 3 on 3 off shift pattern, working 6:00am–6:00pm
Hourly Rate: £14.35 per hour
Reporting To: Contract Manager
Overview
The Cleaning Supervisor is responsible for supervising the day-to-day delivery of cleaning services at Gloucester Quays, ensuring that contractual requirements, site specifications and agreed standards are consistently met.
The role involves organising daily deployment, supporting and developing the cleaning team, monitoring performance and maintaining safe working practices. This is a hands-on supervisory role, requiring active participation in cleaning duties alongside effective team leadership.
The Cleaning Supervisor will help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for customers, retailers, visitors and colleagues across the centre’s internal, external and back-of-house areas.
Responsibilities:
Service Delivery & Cleaning Standards
- Oversee daily cleaning operations, allocating tasks to ensure high standards are maintained throughout the centre.
- Conduct regular inspections, address issues promptly and support cleaning audits and KPI targets.
- Coordinate planned and reactive cleaning activities, including deep cleans and event preparation.
- Ensure all public areas, welfare facilities and back-of-house locations remain clean, safe and presentable.
Team Supervision & Development
- Lead, motivate and support the cleaning team to deliver a consistently high standard of service.
- Conduct shift briefings, monitor performance and provide coaching where required.
- Support training, inductions, attendance management and performance reviews.
- Promote a positive team culture and escalate any welfare or conduct concerns appropriately.
Machinery, Equipment & Stock Control
- Ensure cleaning equipment and machinery are operated safely and by authorised personnel only.
- Carry out equipment checks, report defects and oversee maintenance requirements.
- Monitor stock levels of chemicals, consumables and cleaning materials.
- Maintain organised, compliant and well-managed cleaning stores.
Waste Management & Environmental Standards
- Oversee waste handling and recycling processes in line with site procedures.
- Maintain clean and organised waste storage areas.
- Promote environmentally responsible practices and minimise unnecessary waste.
Customer Service & Site Relationships
- Deliver excellent customer service and act as a professional ambassador for the site.
- Respond to enquiries and cleaning requests in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Work closely with centre management, security, contractors and other stakeholders to support site operations.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all cleaning activities are carried out in accordance with health & safety, COSHH and company procedures.
- Promote safe working practices, including the correct use of PPE and warning signage.
- Report hazards, incidents and near misses, ensuring accurate records are maintained.
- Maintain compliance with all site policies, inspections and operational procedures.
Administration & Communication
- Maintain accurate records, logs and cleaning documentation.
- Complete shift handovers and provide regular operational updates to management.
- Ensure company systems and communication procedures are followed at all times.
- Support audits, inspections and the completion of follow-up actions.
Requirements
Essential:
- Previous experience in commercial cleaning and supervising or leading a team.
- Ability to organise workloads, prioritise tasks and maintain consistent standards.
- Practical knowledge of cleaning methods, chemicals and equipment.
- Understanding of COSHH, health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
- Clear communication skills and a professional customer service approach.
- Ability to complete accurate records and use time and attendance systems.
- Willingness to undertake hands-on cleaning duties and work the agreed rota, including weekends and bank holidays where required.
Desirable:
- Experience in a shopping centre, retail or other busy public environment.
- Experience supporting cleaning audits, KPI reporting and improvement plans.
- Training in the safe operation of ride-on and pedestrian cleaning machinery.
- Experience delivering practical training and site inductions.
