 General Summary

Johnson County Information Technology is seeking a Programmer / Integration Developer. This position will develop, integrate, automate, and support technology solutions used across County departments.

The successful candidate will work with County departments, IT staff, and software vendors to connect systems, automate business processes, develop reports and dashboards, improve data accessibility, and create solutions where existing commercial applications do not fully meet operational needs.

This is a hands-on technical position for someone who enjoys solving business problems with technology and working across a diverse enterprise environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain integrations between County and third-party systems (APIs, web services, data exchanges).
  • Develop scripts, workflows, and custom tools to automate manual processes.
  • Write SQL queries, stored procedures, reports, and dashboards (SQL Server, Power BI).
  • Partner with departments to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Support data migrations, conversions, imports/exports, and validation.
  • Troubleshoot issues across applications, databases, integrations, and web services.
  • Coordinate with vendors on interface implementation and support.
  • Build solutions using Power Platform, low-code tools, and AI-enabled services where appropriate.
  • Support web applications and backend/content-management integrations.
  • Participate in implementations, upgrades, testing, and deployments.
  • Maintain source-code repos and documentation for applications, integrations, and APIs.
  • Follow County standards for development, security, and data governance.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams and provide technical knowledge transfer.
  • Perform other technology duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Candidates should have experience in several of the following:

  • SQL Server and relational databases
  • REST APIs, JSON/XML, and integration technologies
  • C#, .NET, Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, or similar
  • Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps) and Power BI
  • Microsoft 365 and Azure
  • Web/backend application development
  • Git or other source control
  • Data migration, transformation, and reporting
  • Systems interoperability and workflow automation
  • Secure application development (auth/authz practices)
  • AI APIs and automation tools
  •  

Strong fundamentals and problem-solving matter more than checking every box.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field — or equivalent experience/certifications.
  • Demonstrated experience in software development, integration, database work, or a related discipline.
  •  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience integrating enterprise/SaaS applications.
  • SQL Server development and API design/consumption.
  • Power Platform, Power BI, M365, or Azure experience.
  • Development within a Microsoft enterprise environment.
  • Experience with public-sector, local government, or public-safety/judicial/records systems.
  • Experience handling sensitive or confidential data securely.

Legal Requirements

  • Must be able to pass drug test and future random drug tests.
  • Must be able to pass background check with criminal history. 
  • Cannot have a Felony Arrest, Conviction or Deferred Adjudication.
  • Cannot have a Misdemeanor A Arrest, Conviction or Deferred Adjudication. 
  • Cannot have any open arrest for Felony or Misdemeanor A or B.
  • Cannot have Family Violence Conviction or Deferred Adjudication.
  • Criminal History will be reviewed annually for any outstanding arrest.
