Compassion in Action – Pastoral Care Volunteering

HammondCare pastoral care volunteers offer gentle spiritual and emotional support to older people living in our aged care homes. This meaningful role is ideal for someone who feels called to share comfort, encouragement, and compassionate presence with those who may benefit from it.

As a pastoral care volunteer, you’ll also remain connected and involved with a local Christian church, helping ensure residents receive care that honours their faith, dignity, and wellbeing.

Your kindness can bring peace, reassurance, and a sense of connection to someone who truly values it.

You’ll supplement and complement the work of our Residential Pastoral Care Coordinator, and under their direction you may:

• Support people to meet their spiritual needs
• Nurture spiritual development

Skills required for this role

• High level of interpersonal skills including strong empathy and  listening skills.
• Pastoral Care training for example Chaplaincy, Clinical Pastoral Education, or you could attend HammondCare pastoral care training- Spiritual Care Series, in preparation to becoming a pastoral care volunteer.

Exciting opportunity for Ministry accredited study

HammondCare, in partnership with Tabor College, is now offering an undergraduate Certificate in Ministry that blends internship experience with higher education study. The program includes on site training, supportive supervision, and meaningful hands on experience in pastoral care within both ministry and care settings.

Volunteering as a social visitor can be a rewarding experience, both for the person you visit as well as yourself. Regular visits from volunteers can help to improve quality of life and help people feel less isolated.

Requirements

The commitment is one hour per weekly/fortnightly for a minimum of 6 months. We would be delighted to talk with you about a suitable day and time during the week (Monday to Friday) between 9am-4pm.
