We are looking for Director of Nursing to our hospital in Dublin.
The Director of Nursing will play a key leadership role in the delivery of the Hospitals 2030 Strategic Plan and will deputise for the CEO when required.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic nursing leadership in collaboration with the Hospital Management Team, Clinical Director, CEO and senior nursing leadership, developing and implementing an integrated nursing strategy aligned with the organisation’s strategic plan, mission, vision and values.

Lead workforce planning, recruitment, retention and skill-mix development, ensuring the effective deployment of nursing and healthcare staff while promoting professional development, education, training, research and a positive employee experience.

Provide strong clinical and operational leadership to Nursing staff, ensuring safe, patient-centred and efficient service delivery, effective bed management and patient flow, appropriate staffing levels, and compliance with NMBI, HIQA and other statutory and professional requirements.

Manage nursing resources effectively, including pay and non-pay budgets, staffing, bed and theatre utilisation, education and training expenditure, ensuring appropriate budgetary control, efficiency and value for money.

Lead quality, safety and clinical governance initiatives, promoting evidence-based practice, infection prevention and control, medication safety, professional regulation, risk management, incident learning and continuous quality improvement across nursing services.

Support accreditation and regulatory requirements, including HIQA, JCI and JAG, while developing and monitoring KPIs, audits, management reports, policies and procedures to maintain high standards of clinical care, patient safety and service performance.

Build strong relationships with patients, staff, multidisciplinary teams, healthcare organisations and academic partners through effective communication and engagement, representing the organisation on professional nursing matters and promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.
Requirements

Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), with a recognised third-level qualification in Nursing and/or Healthcare Management.

A Master’s degree in Leadership, Management or Business Administration and/or a relevant postgraduate clinical qualification would be desirable.

Have substantial acute hospital nursing experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior nursing management role, with strong experience in people management, change management, budgeting and financial management.

Demonstrate senior leadership experience in implementing quality management systems within a healthcare environment, with a proven track record of service innovation and leading change in challenging settings.

Demonstrate strong operational and strategic management skills, including effective planning, resource management, performance monitoring, financial accountability and a clear focus on achieving organisational results and value for money.

Possess excellent leadership, influencing and team management skills, with the ability to motivate specialist professionals, work effectively within multidisciplinary and matrix environments, build collaborative relationships and lead teams through change.

Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities, including the capacity to evaluate options, apply evidence-based approaches, involve relevant stakeholders and make balanced and timely decisions.

Demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with a strong patient-centred approach, commitment to the organisation’s values and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high standards of performance.

Extensive acute hospital nursing experience, including at least 5 years’ experience in senior nursing management positions.

Strong experience in people management, leadership and managing organisational change.

Proven experience in budgeting, financial management and effective resource allocation.

Senior leadership experience in implementing and maintaining quality management systems within a healthcare environment.
