East Africa Fintech Expansion Director

We are conducting a confidential search for an East Africa Fintech Expansion Director to lead regional growth for a fintech organisation based in Nairobi, working hybrid. Nairobi is the undisputed centre of East African mobile money and fintech innovation, and this is a director-level opportunity for a commercial leader who can scale a proven model across the wider region.

In this role, you will own the regional expansion strategy across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda, lead integration and commercial strategy on M-Pesa and Safaricom payment rails, and direct Central Bank of Kenya licensing and regulatory engagement for new product lines and market entries. You will build and manage agent network partnerships to drive last-mile distribution and cash-in/cash-out coverage, and lead market entry sequencing and go-to-market planning for each new East African market.

You will build and lead a regional commercial team of country and partnership managers, partner with compliance and risk on cross-border regulatory requirements, and represent regional expansion performance to executive leadership and investors. You will also own competitive positioning against incumbent mobile money and telco-led fintech players across the region.

Nice to Have:

• Direct experience with M-Pesa or Safaricom commercial partnerships
• Background navigating Central Bank of Kenya fintech licensing
• Track record launching or scaling fintech products across Uganda, Tanzania, or Rwanda
• Experience building and managing agent network distribution
• Familiarity with pan-East-African regulatory harmonisation initiatives
