This internship focuses on coordinating the financial and operational milestones for a large scale project with our partner in the international development sector. You will help ensure that our internal analysis remains aligned with external deadlines while keeping data organized for our principal led team.

About Blue Oak Consulting
Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure.
We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.

The Role
As a Project Management Intern, you will work in a fully remote environment alongside our senior advisors. This is not a role where you will just take notes in meetings. You will be responsible for maintaining the structure of our project workflows, ensuring that our data collection efforts stay on track. Because we work with an international development partner, the logistics can be complex and involve multiple layers of reporting. You will help manage these moving parts to ensure our financial critiques are delivered on time and based on the most current information available. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys organizing data and tracking the progress of long term goals.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Update and maintain project timelines to reflect progress on financial audits and advisory tasks.
  • Organize and categorize data sets received from the international development partner for analysis.
  • Assist in building basic financial models to test the assumptions behind project budgets.
  • Coordinate remote meetings between our principals and external stakeholders across different time zones.
  • Track the status of data requests and follow up on missing information required for our reports.
  • Review project documentation to identify discrepancies between stated goals and actual spending.
  • Draft progress reports that summarize our findings for senior leadership review.
  • Manage the internal repository of project files to ensure all team members have access to the latest versions.
  • Monitor project spending against internal budgets to prevent cost overruns during the execution phase.
What You Bring
  • A recent degree or current enrollment in a program related to finance, economics, or business administration.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to use formulas to organize large amounts of data.
  • A disciplined approach to work with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently in a remote setting while staying communicative with a team.
  • Clear and direct writing skills that prioritize facts over corporate jargon.
  • A curious mindset that questions why numbers look the way they do rather than accepting them at face value.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple small tasks without losing track of the main goal.
  • Comfort working with individuals from different professional backgrounds and sectors.
What We Offer
  • A fully remote work arrangement that allows you to manage your tasks from any location.
  • Competitive pay that is attractive for an internship role in the current market.
  • Direct access to firm principals who are experts in financial advisory and portfolio economics.
  • Hands on training in how to interrogate financial assumptions and identify value leakage.
  • Exposure to complex projects within the international development sector.
  • A professional environment that values honest analysis over political corporate narratives.
  • Experience working in a small, lean team where your contributions are clearly visible.
  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate ongoing studies if necessary.
At Blue Oak Consulting, we believe that the best decisions come from looking at the numbers without bias. This internship is an opportunity to learn how to apply financial discipline to real world problems while supporting a project that has a broad reach through our international development partner. We value individuals who are willing to look under the hood and tell us what they see, even if it contradicts the standard corporate story. Our work is about finding the truth in the data and helping our clients make decisions that are economically sound.
