Job Title: Engineering Technician - Traffic Signals

GovFirst is seeking a detail-oriented and field-focused Engineering Technician to support signal shop operations in Suffolk, VA. The successful candidate will assist with field reviews, work-plan verification, data collection, signal timing information, documentation, and data management related to roadway and traffic signal infrastructure.

The successful candidate is responsible for:

• Prepare and assemble plan sheets, task orders, datasets, and other documentation to support signal shop operations.
  
• Conduct field reviews of work plans and verify actual site conditions at roadway and traffic signal locations.
  
• Drive a state-owned vehicle to remote field locations and coordinate with maintenance personnel to obtain access to equipment and work areas.
  
• Collect, document, and validate field information related to roadway and traffic signal infrastructure.
  
• Assemble and maintain signal timing models and related information for approximately 189 traffic signals.
  
• Reconcile work plans, field information, and datasets with signal shop personnel and management.
  
• Perform accurate and timely data entry and maintain detailed data records.
  
• Access and work with critical information systems and networks supporting roadway infrastructure and electronic assets.
  
• Apply knowledge of roadway operations and maintenance, including data collection, pavement markings, pavement markers and messages, traffic signs, guardrails, and related roadway infrastructure.
  
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, maintenance personnel, signal shop staff, and management regarding field findings and work-plan requirements.
  
• Work independently while managing multiple assignments, priorities, and deadlines.
  
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff or project management.
  

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• Demonstrated knowledge of roadway operations and maintenance activities.
  
• Experience with field data collection, field reviews, inspections, or verification of roadway infrastructure.
  
• Ability to enter accurately, maintain, reconcile, and manage large amounts of data.
  
• Ability to interpret work plans, task orders, drawings, or related documentation and verify field conditions.
  
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments while meeting deadlines.
  
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  
• Proficiency with computers and commonly used software applications.
  
• Ability to work outdoors along highways and in varying weather conditions.
  
• Ability to work safely around traffic, roadway infrastructure, and electronic/traffic signal equipment.
  
• Ability to respond to changing operational requirements, including emergency assignments and short-notice work.
  

Required Education & Credentials:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
  
• Equivalent experience or training may be considered.
  

Required Work Authorization:

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  

Required Licenses, Certifications & Screening:

• Valid Virginia Driver's License in good standing required.
  
• Successful completion of a Virginia DMV driving record check.
  
• Successful completion of pre-employment fingerprint-based Criminal History Record Check (CHRC).
  
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening.
  
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
  
• Successful completion of a 90-day probationary period.
  
• Completion of required VDOT and industry training.
