Slot Game Designer

Nexus is looking for an experienced Slot Game Designer to join our Nucleo team and take ownership of online slot games from concept through to release.

You’ll shape game mechanics, bonus features, rules and player experience, turning ideas into clear, production-ready designs while working closely with development, QA, art and project teams. We’re looking for someone with strong hands-on slot design experience, solid game-mathematics knowledge and the ability to independently drive assigned titles through production.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Game Concepts & Mechanics

• Develop original slot concepts with clear themes and mechanics.
  

• Define reel layouts, symbol types, paylines or ways-to-win systems.
  

• Design features: wilds, scatters, free spins, multipliers, cascading reels.
  

• Design expanding symbols and hold-and-win mechanics.
  

• Specify how features trigger, interact, retrigger and resolve.
  

• Evaluate concepts for player appeal, feasibility and production scope.
  

Game Documentation

• Create and maintain detailed Game Design Documents.
  

• Cover mechanics, features, game states, flows and interaction rules.
  

• Prepare feature diagrams, wireframes and example gameplay scenarios.
  

• Define acceptance criteria for development and QA teams.
  

• Keep documentation current and communicate changes to relevant teams.
  

• Write clear player-facing rules and help content.
  

Player Experience & Creative Direction

• Define pacing and presentation of base gameplay and bonus rounds.
  

• Define feature reveals and win celebrations.
  

• Work with artists so themes and symbols support readability.
  

• Brief animation, VFX and audio teams on feature feedback and reward presentation.
  

• Collaborate on UI and UX for rules, controls and feature states.
  

• Ensure a consistent experience across mobile and desktop.
  

Production & Quality Assurance

• Support developers by clarifying requirements and design questions.
  

• Review prototypes and builds to verify mechanics and presentation.
  

• Work with QA to identify inconsistencies and missing scenarios.
  

• Prioritize design changes with project managers against timelines.
  

• Confirm the final game matches the approved design before release.
  

Market Research & Performance Review

• Analyses existing slot games for mechanics and feature trends.
  

• Identify opportunities for original designs and improvements.
  

• Use playtest feedback and post-launch data to inform future designs.
  

• Consider responsible gaming principles throughout the design process.
  

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

• Typically 5 to 8 years of professional game-design experience.
  

• Substantial hands-on experience designing online slot games.
  

• Clear personal ownership of mechanics, documentation and implementation decisions.
  

• Strong practical understanding of slot mechanics and bonus systems.
  

• Working knowledge of RTP, volatility, hit frequency and win distribution.
  

• Ability to interpret simulation outputs and work with mathematicians.
  

• Proven experience producing production-ready GDDs and specifications.
  

• Experience reviewing builds with development and QA.
  

• Comfort working independently while collaborating across functions.
  

Nice to Have:

• Experience in iGaming, SaaS or platform businesses.
  

• Experience taking several slot titles from concept to commercial release.
  

• Background in mathematics, statistics, probability or game-economy design.
  

• Familiarity with spreadsheets, simulation tools or scripting.
  

• Experience with multiple regulated markets.
  

• Familiarity with game analytics, playtesting or rapid prototyping.
  

Technical and Soft Skills:

• Slot-game design across core loops, reel/ways structures and bonus mechanics.
  

• Feature interactions and edge-case definition.
  

• Practical game-mathematics literacy: RTP, volatility, hit frequency, win distribution.
