Operations Manager – Broilers

Reports to: Agriculture Director
Supervises: Senior Poultry Managers (direct)

About the Role

The Operations Manager – Broilers is responsible for the entire broiler operations section of the company, including future sites.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Leadership

• Strategically direct, manage and transition the operations of the broiler division.
  
• Plan, organise, communicate and execute the various broiler business activities.
  
• Meet set KPIs in line with the strategic plan.
  
• Drive implementation of the Organization culture and values, and lead by example throughout the broiler department.
  

Operations, Standards & Quality

• Review all protocols for the broiler operations division.
  
• Review and revise breeder SOPs, then implement the revised procedures so they are operationally effective and aligned with food safety requirements.
  
• Work with the Quality Assurance team to develop a usable QA programme that can be adopted across the broiler operations business.
  
• Effect best practices and world-class standards in the broiler division.
  
• Maintain all poultry facilities and equipment in the best working condition.
  

Data & Reporting

• Develop a data-driven broiler operation.
  
• Develop daily, weekly and monthly reports that give the Agriculture Director better visibility of broiler operations.
  

People Development

• Identify staff training and mentoring needs to enable knowledge transfer and skills development.
  
• Develop, train and recruit local breeder farm managers who strive to attain international broiler standards.
  

Out-grower Management

• Engage new contract growers.
  
• Ensure new and current growers are trained, developed and monitored to perform to organization standards.

• 7-day mortality below 1%
  
• FCR below 1.85
  
• PEF above 280
  
• Average live weight of 1.75 kg
  
• 100% compliance with biosecurity SOPs
  

Requirements

Education

• Required: Bachelor's degree in Agriculture (with animal production specialization), Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Animal Production or a closely related field.
  
• Added advantage: Master's degree in Animal Science, Poultry Science, Animal Production, Veterinary Public Health, Agribusiness or a related discipline.
  

Experience

• 7–10+ years' experience in a senior management position, with responsibility for multiple sites, large teams or several production functions.
  
• Extensive commercial poultry experience (mandatory).
  
• Experience leading a large staff complement.
