Summary

Birmingham Children's Trust is on the lookout for a seasoned Youth Offending Service (YOS) Officer to enhance its Youth Justice team. The position entails managing intricate casework, engaging in quality assurance activities, and advancing the Birmingham Children's Trust's Connections Count Practice Model. This opportunity is ideal for those with a background in Youth Justice, Youth Offending, or Youth Justice Services, who are adept at handling diverse caseloads and contributing to service enhancements.

Responsibilities

• Oversee complex Youth Justice cases and maintain precise case documentation.
  
• Implement effective strategies to reduce and prevent reoffending.
  
• Collaborate directly with young individuals, their families, and partner organizations.
  
• Facilitate the execution of the Connections Count Practice Model.
  
• Conduct assessments, planning, interventions, reviews, and monitor outcomes.
  
• Engage in quality assurance processes and service evaluations.
  
• Mentor and support the development of less experienced staff members.
  
• Offer professional and technical guidance to colleagues as needed.
  
• Ensure adherence to Youth Justice legislation, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  
• Monitor and ensure case documentation aligns with YJS standards.
  
• Identify the needs of service users and develop evidence-based interventions.
  
• Contribute to the creation of group work programs and individual interventions.
  
• Assist in managing high-profile and complex cases.
  
• Lead meetings and reviews involving young people and their families.
  
• Represent the Youth Justice Service at strategy meetings, professional gatherings, and multi-agency forums.
  
• Assist managers with workload monitoring and performance enhancement activities.
  
• Stand in for managers when necessary and help address operational challenges.

Requirements

Requirements:

• Experience within a Youth Offending Service (YOS) or Youth Justice Service (YJS).
  
• Proven track record in managing complex cases involving children and young people.
  
• Comprehensive understanding of Youth Justice legislation, practices, risk assessment, intervention planning, safeguarding, and child protection.
  
• Experience in a multi-agency environment.
  
• Proficient in report writing and maintaining records.
  
• Ability to foster positive relationships with young people and their families.
  
• Experience in leading or participating in professional meetings.
  
• Excellent communication and persuasion skills.
  
• Capability to work independently and prioritize workload effectively.
  

Desirable

• Qualifications in Social Work, Youth Justice, Probation, Youth Work, or Criminology.
  
• Familiarity with Youth Justice assessment tools.
  
• Experience in delivering group work programs.
  
• Knowledge of restorative practice methodologies.
  
• Experience in supporting service development and quality assurance activities.
