Electrical Design Engineer

On behalf of our client, we are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Electrical Design Engineer to design safe, efficient, and reliable electrical systems for energy, commercial, and infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will prepare technical designs, calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates while supporting project teams during procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop electrical designs for power distribution, lighting, earthing, protection, and control systems.
  
• Prepare single-line diagrams, schematics, layouts, cable schedules, and technical drawings.
  
• Conduct electrical load assessments, equipment sizing, voltage-drop calculations, and protection studies.
  
• Prepare technical specifications, bills of quantities, material schedules, and cost estimates.
  
• Review client requirements, architectural drawings, and engineering information before commencing designs.
  
• Select suitable electrical equipment and materials based on performance, safety, and project requirements.
  
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, technical standards, and regulatory requirements.
  
• Coordinate electrical designs with civil, mechanical, structural, and project-management teams.
  
• Review supplier and contractor technical submissions for compliance with approved specifications.
  
• Respond to technical queries and provide design clarification during project implementation.
  
• Conduct site surveys and verify existing electrical systems and installation conditions.
  
• Support inspections, testing, commissioning, and handover of completed systems.
  
• Identify design risks, constructability concerns, and value-engineering opportunities.
  
• Maintain accurate design files, revisions, calculations, and approval records.
  
• Prepare technical reports and communicate project progress to relevant stakeholders.
  

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  
• Registration with the Engineers Registration Board of Tanzania, or eligibility for registration, is preferred.
  
• Training in computer-aided design or electrical engineering software will be an added advantage.
  
• At least four years of electrical design experience within engineering consulting, construction, energy, utilities, or infrastructure.
  
• Practical experience designing low- and medium-voltage electrical systems.
  
• Proficiency in relevant electrical design, drafting, and calculation software.
  
• Experience preparing drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, and technical reports.
  
• Sound knowledge of electrical safety, protection systems, equipment selection, and installation practices.
  
• Ability to interpret architectural, mechanical, structural, and civil engineering drawings.
  
• Strong analytical, documentation, communication, and problem-solving capabilities.
  
• Willingness to travel to project sites when required.
