£38,000 to £41,000 + overtime + paid door to door + discretionary company bonus + on-call pay + company van and fuel card

Your van. Your Cookham patch. Fixed first time.

Keep the pumps, generators and site plant around Cookham running, working from a fully stocked van with the job history in your hand before you arrive. Plantexpand maintains the plant and vehicles behind the UK's water, power, gas and telecoms networks, working for national utilities, councils, government and operators of critical sites. Around 95% of our work is done on site, and we empower our engineers to fix first time, with an eight bay workshop, a planning team and our partner suppliers behind them.

What you'll work on

  • Pumps and generators
  • Excavators and small plant
  • Trailers and other site plant for utility and public sector customers

A typical day

  • First thing: check your schedule and van stock, then head to your first site, arriving between 7am and 8am.
  • Morning: planned servicing, weekly inspections and preventative maintenance, plus a walk round the site to check any other assets.
  • Afternoon: breakdowns and urgent repairs, collecting parts from the depot when needed, and finishing your service reports.
  • The mix: around 60 to 70% planned maintenance and 30 to 40% breakdowns and repairs.

What you'll do

  • Service, repair and maintain plant on customer sites in and around Cookham
  • Find the fault and fix it first time
  • Carry out PUWER inspections, pre-delivery inspections, safety checks and trailer defect checks, and report LOLER defects
  • Carry out LOLER thorough examinations on forklifts, telehandlers and excavators used for lifting, once you're qualified, on equipment maintained by another engineer
  • Log every job on a tablet (photos, hours and parts used), close the job, raise follow-on repairs and talk directly to our service controllers

What you'll need

  • Hands-on maintenance experience on pumps, generators, excavators or small plant (any one of these is enough to apply)
  • Your own hand tools (we supply specialist tools and diagnostics)
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Happy working on your own, out on site

Nice to have

  • NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance
  • Lantra or NPTC small plant qualifications
  • LOLER experience (training available for strong candidates)

Where it can lead

You can progress from engineer to senior engineer and supervisor, with cross-training into other disciplines.

Hours

Full time, Monday to Friday: 45 hours a week, plus 2.5 hours of paid meal breaks across the week. You are paid door to door, from when you leave home.

What you get

  • £38,000 to £41,000 a year, plus overtime and enhanced overtime
  • Discretionary performance bonus: paid quarterly, based on company targets
  • £200 a week when you are on the on-call rota, plus enhanced overtime and call-out payments
  • Company van no more than four years old, designed by our engineers and fitted with the major tools, diagnostics and parts for the job, plus a company fuel card (business use only)
  • 20 days' holiday plus bank holidays
  • Company pension
  • Two paid staff events a year and monthly recognition vouchers
  • £2,000 for every engineer you refer who we hire

Ex-Forces and career changers with the right mechanical skills are welcome. Plantexpand is an Armed Forces Covenant signatory.
