Selling Sales Manager – Retail Sales & Marketing
Stu’s Home Improvement Outlet | Dubuque, Iowa
Full-Time | On-Site
We Need a Sales Leader Who Can SELL, BUILD & GROW
Stu’s Home Improvement Outlet is looking for a proven Selling Sales Manager to take ownership of our sales floor, build a high-performing sales team, and help aggressively grow store revenue.
This is not a desk-management position. We need someone who can walk onto the sales floor on Day 1, take a customer, build value, present financing, overcome objections, ask for the sale and CLOSE THE DEAL.
Then we need you to teach the rest of the team how to do exactly what you just did.
We sell appliances, furniture, flooring, cabinets, vanities, home improvement products and more in a fast-paced, high-ticket retail environment.
What You'll Be Responsible For
You will take ownership of the sales operation, including:
- Personally selling and closing customers
- Leading the sales team from the floor
- Taking sales turnovers and helping close difficult deals
- Recruiting, interviewing and hiring salespeople
- Training, coaching and developing the sales team
- Building a repeatable sales process every salesperson follows
- Setting and enforcing daily, weekly and monthly sales goals
- Holding salespeople accountable for performance
- Managing CRM follow-up, leads and unsold customers
- Improving closing percentages and average tickets
- Training the team on financing and payment options
- Running daily sales meetings and role-playing
- Creating promotions and sales events
- Planning weekend, holiday, clearance and truckload events
- Developing strategies to increase store traffic
- Working with Facebook, Marketplace, social media, video and digital advertising
- Developing lead-generation campaigns
- Following up with previous customers and unsold leads
- Tracking traffic, leads, appointments, close rates and sales
- Working directly with ownership to aggressively increase revenue
This Position Is Different
We are NOT looking for someone who has simply supervised an established sales department.
We want someone who has BUILT sales teams and produced measurable results.
If a salesperson tells you:
"The customer says they're just looking."
We expect you to know what to do.
If traffic is down, we expect you to develop a plan to increase it.
If the sales team isn't performing, we expect you to coach, train, recruit and make the necessary changes.
If a deal isn't closing, we expect you to step in and help close it.
You lead from the front.
The Person We're Looking For
The strongest candidates will have experience in high-ticket, commission-driven sales environments such as:
- Furniture
- Appliances
- Automotive
- RV/Powersports
- Flooring
- Mattresses
- Home Improvement
- Windows/Doors
- Roofing
- Other high-ticket retail or in-home sales
We are especially interested in candidates who have personally been responsible for growing revenue, building sales teams and generating customer traffic.
You Must Be Strong In:
Sales & Closing
You must be an experienced salesperson and closer—not just a manager.
Recruiting & Training
You must know how to find, hire, train and develop salespeople.
Sales Leadership
You must be comfortable setting expectations and holding people accountable.
Marketing & Traffic Generation
You must understand how promotions, events, social media, digital marketing, Marketplace, CRM follow-up and advertising generate traffic and sales.
Numbers & Accountability
You should know your numbers: traffic, leads, close rate, average ticket, salesperson production and total revenue.
During the Interview, Be Prepared to Tell Us:
- How much you personally sold
- The largest sales team you have managed
- How many salespeople you personally recruited
- How you trained and developed them
- Your team's sales results
- Your closing percentage
- How you improved an underperforming sales operation
- How you generated additional store traffic
- Marketing campaigns or sales events you personally created
- Specific examples of revenue growth you were responsible for
We want numbers, examples and measurable results—not just job titles.
What Success Looks Like
Your first priority will be to get on the sales floor, understand our business and SELL.
From there, you will evaluate the existing sales process, recruit and develop the right team, establish accountability, improve follow-up, increase conversion, develop promotions and help drive substantially more traffic and revenue.
As the sales organization becomes stronger, this position has the opportunity to grow into a larger leadership role within the company.
Who Will Succeed Here?
Someone who is:
Competitive. Hands-on. Driven. Accountable. Creative. Sales-focused.
You don't wait for customers to magically walk through the door.
You figure out how to get them here.
You don't tell salespeople how to sell from an office.
You get on the floor and show them.
If you have successfully built sales teams, generated traffic, increased revenue and can personally close high-ticket retail sales, **we want to talk
