Personal Care Assistant (PCA)

Adelphi is seeking a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to provide in-person, non-medical personal and functional support to students within a school setting in Wilmington, North Carolina. The PCA will assist students who require support with activities of daily living, mobility, positioning, feeding, access, and participation in educational activities while implementing established student support plans and promoting student safety and independence.

Requirements

• Ability to provide non-medical personal and functional assistance to students in accordance with established support plans.
• Maintain any certifications, registry status, or credentials required for the assigned student or services.
• Perform only duties for which the PCA has been properly trained, deemed competent, and authorized.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with personal care needs and activities of daily living.
• Provide mobility, positioning, and transfer assistance using approved methods and equipment.
• Assist with feeding and hydration when assigned and appropriately trained.
• Escort and support students throughout the school campus and during school-related activities.
• Support student access to and participation in classroom and school activities.
• Monitor students for safety concerns and promptly notify appropriate school or nursing personnel of changes in condition.
• Assist with the use of adaptive equipment as trained and directed.
• Implement assigned supports identified in IEPs, Section 504 Plans, behavior plans, healthcare plans, and other established student plans.
• Maintain required service documentation.
• Provide behavioral and functional support consistent with established plans and staff direction.
• Maintain student privacy and confidentiality.
• Follow district health, safety, emergency, and reporting procedures.
• Do not administer medications unless separately authorized, appropriately trained, and permitted under applicable law and district policy.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
