We are currently hiring Chief Physicist for a reputed hospital in Dublin, Ireland.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Medical Physics service, ensuring safe, effective, and high-quality delivery across all clinical areas
- Provide expert scientific advice on radiation protection, imaging optimisation, and regulatory compliance
- Act as Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) / Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in accordance with statutory requirements
- Oversee quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) programmes for all radiological equipment, including diagnostic imaging and MRI
- Ensure compliance with national and international standards, legislation, and best practice guidelines
- Support the implementation, optimisation, and commissioning of new equipment and technologies
- Collaborate closely with Radiologists, Radiographers, and multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and service delivery
- Lead incident investigations related to radiation safety and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Develop and review policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures within the department
- Manage departmental resources, including staffing, budgeting, and service planning
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and training to junior physicists and technical staff
- Participate in research, audit, and innovation initiatives to advance clinical practice
- Contribute to teaching and continuous professional development programmes within the organisation
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting in line with regulatory and organisational requirements
Requirements
Recognised First or Second Class Honours Degree with Physics as a major subjectOR
Recognised First or Second Class Honours Degree in Electrical / Electronic / Mechanical / Clinical Engineering
Postgraduate qualification (MSc or PhD) in Medical Physics / Clinical Engineering
Equivalent qualifications may be considered
Minimum 7 years’ relevant experience, including at least 3 years at senior level, in one or more of the following:
- Nuclear Medicine
- Radiation Protection Procedures
- Clinical Engineering
- Radiological Physics
- Radiotherapy
- Medical Imaging
Registration as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) with the Irish College of Physicists in Medicine (ICPM)
OR eligibility to obtain registration within 12 months
Registration as a Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA)
OR eligibility to obtain registration within 12 months
