Sterile Processing Technician

Our team is hiring local and traveling Sterile Processing Technicians to support our growing team. The Sterile Processing Technician's responsibilities include retrieving contaminated supplies and delivering sterile supplies, maintaining inventory, and preparing sterile instrument trays for surgeries, examinations, and procedures.

We're looking for a self-starter who can manage their time effectively. The role requires drive and a sense of accountability because the day-to-day working environment will involve very little direct supervision.



Responsibilities:

  • Collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination.
  • Manually cleaning supplies of contaminants, removing waste matter, and operating and maintaining decontamination equipment.
  • Preparing and packing decontaminated supplies for sterilization.
  • Monitoring and operating sterilization equipment.
  • Examining supplies meticulously to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Testing and reporting any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment.
  • Sterilizing, preparing, wrapping, and organizing equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures.
  • Preparing and delivering all necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries, examinations, medical procedures, and medical carts.
  • Maintaining records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies.
  • Controlling the inventory, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates.
  • Other duties as assigned

This position requires frequent standing (6–8 hours), walking (<4 hours), and limited sitting (0–2 hours). Employees must be able to lift and carry 20–50 lbs and push/pull up to 20 lbs. The role involves various physical activities, including but not limited to squatting (0–1 hours), bending, twisting, reaching above the shoulders, reaching below the waist, kneeling, and grasping (each 1–5 hours).

Sterile Processing Technician Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified SPD Technician- HSPA/IAHCSMM, CBSPD
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand medical terminology in order to follow written instructions and complete various forms and records regarding equipment’s processing and preparation of equipment.
  • Must be able to regularly lift to 30 lbs., stand for 8 hours, stoop, bend, pull and retrieve material.
