Senior Mechanical Engineer Reno / Carson City, NV | Full-Time | On-Site / Local Preferred| Relocation accepted About the Role We are seeking highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineers to design, build, and commission critical mechanical subsystems for advanced power‑generation machinery. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in high‑ownership environments, enjoy solving complex mechanical challenges, and want to see their work operating on real hardware within months—not years. You will work across subsystem detail design, system‑level integration, and rapid prototyping. The machinery involved includes high‑speed rotating equipment, dynamic load systems, and high‑power thermal management—requiring rigorous engineering discipline and fast, iterative execution. This is a small, early‑stage engineering team, offering significant influence over technical decisions and system architecture. Key Responsibilities Functional Requirements & Concept Engineering Translate design challenges into clear functional requirements Develop rapid concept designs using order‑of‑magnitude engineering Utilize first‑principles methods: free‑body diagrams, energy balances, pressure/flow mapping Engage vendors early and incorporate industry solutions where appropriate Seek fast, frictionless feedback to advance concepts quickly System & Subsystem Specification Define subsystem specifications and mechanical/electrical/flow interfaces Create 3D CAD models to establish layouts, interconnects, and clash detection Detailed Mechanical Design Produce high‑fidelity 3D CAD models to “as‑built” level Conduct rigorous analysis across Multi‑axis mechanical stresses Vibrational instability and fatigue Contact loads and material imperfections Tolerance stack‑ups and induced loads Thermal growth, stress, and derating High‑pressure/high‑temperature fluid behavior Temperature management systems Work closely with vendors to ensure designs meet real operating conditions Document analysis, design decisions, and engineering rationale clearly Rapid Build & Test Execution Drive fast build cycles—speed and iteration are core to success Deliver detailed drawings and specifications to fabrication partners Develop test plans, structures, instrumentation, and schedules Test early and often to accelerate troubleshooting and design refinement Iterate quickly between design versions and test runs You May Be a Great Fit If… You’ve owned complex mechanical design/build projects involving high‑stakes equipment You have hands‑on experience with turbomachinery or high‑speed rotating systems You’ve engineered systems under high temperature, pressure, or speed conditions You thrive in startup or small‑team environments with high autonomy You have experience with: Jet engines High‑speed couplings Industrial gearboxes Synchronous generators Industrial lubrication systems Environmental or exhaust systems You can demonstrate strong order‑of‑magnitude concept engineering through execution Compensation Competitive salary Meaningful early‑stage equity Standard benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance Location Based in the Reno / Carson City, NV area Regular on‑site work required at a nearby test facility Local candidates preferred; relocation or frequent travel required for non‑local candidates.
