What this role really is

Bykea's mission is to improve the movement of people and parcels in Pakistan and our engineering team builds the applications millions of users touch every month. As a Full Stack Engineer II, you'll build highly-reliable, scalable web applications and collaborate closely with Product and Design to ship rich, dependable customer experiences. We have a high bar for quality and efficiency ,every feature we ship is measured against cost savings and/or efficiency improvement, not shipped and forgotten.

This is a builder role, not a pure execution one. You take a well-scoped feature or problem, work out how to build it end-to-end, and own it through design, implementation, testing and shipping, leaning on senior engineers for guidance on the harder calls.

If your instinct on a new feature is "let me understand the problem and build it properly," this role is for you. If it's "just tell me exactly what to code," it isn't.

The environment is fast-moving and touches live, high-traffic systems handling real transactions. Attention to detail and a bias toward shipping matter as much as raw output.

What you'll actually do

Build reliable, scalable applications. Design and develop web application features used by millions of users every month.

Work cross-functionally. Partner with Product and Design professionals to define, document, build, and maintain web applications.

Apply sound engineering judgement. Use computer science and engineering principles thoughtfully, without losing sight of the humans who use what you build.

Follow and strengthen standards. Apply appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the software development life cycle, and help improve them where you see gaps.

Own your features end-to-end. Take assigned features from design through implementation, testing, and shipping, seeking guidance from senior engineers on complex trade-offs, and contribute to code reviews and knowledge sharing within the team.

Must-haves

2-3 years of software engineering industry experience in backend and frontend development

Demonstrated experience shipping high-quality product features on schedule

Experience implementing projects with multiple dependencies

Experience with at least one backend framework: Node.js (JavaScript), (Python), Laravel (PHP), or similar

Working knowledge of at least one frontend JavaScript framework, Next, React, Angular, Vue, Ember, Knockout

Solid knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, and HTML

Exposure to distributed systems and working with databases, relational or NoSQL

Familiarity with RESTful APIs, design patterns, and authorization mechanisms

Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, and work independently with minimal supervision

Be competent with using AI and automation tools effectively and efficiently to boost productivity in all relevant areas of the role, including coding, code review, documentation, research, testing, etc. Should have experience using these tools for at least a year to know about the strengths and weaknesses of these tools.

Strong communicator, able to explain complex information clearly, verbally and in writing

Team player with good attention to detail

Nice-to-haves

Experience working with design systems (e.g. Bootstrap, Salesforce Lightning, GitHub Primer)

Exposure to products with high monthly user interactions

Familiarity with message buses or event streams

Experience with Agile methodologies

Experience & qualifications

2-3 years of software engineering industry experience in backend and frontend development.

Bachelor's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Location: Karachi - onsite.
