The Assistant Production Manager supports the Production Manager in ensuring that the grinding station operates efficiently, safely, and according to plan. The role is expected to be capable of independently managing day-to-day production operations during the Production Manager’s absence.
The position requires close monitoring of production output, downtime, equipment performance, quality, raw material consumption, and maintenance activities, while ensuring that production, quality, and safety procedures are consistently followed on the plant floor.
This role offers a clear growth path toward the Production Manager position over time.
Key Responsibilities
Develop the capability to independently manage day-to-day production operations, including during the Production Manager’s leave or absence.
Monitor daily and weekly production output against plan and investigate, analyze, and report production shortfalls and downtime.
Track equipment performance, breakdowns, and maintenance activities, ensuring preventive maintenance schedules are properly implemented.
Ensure production, quality, safety, and handover procedures are consistently implemented and followed by shift teams.
Monitor raw material consumption, including clinker, gypsum, and additives, as well as stock levels, and flag discrepancies against expected consumption ratios.
Review quality control data, including fineness, Blaine, strength tests, and other relevant parameters, and escalate deviations from specifications.
Prepare daily and weekly production reports covering output, downtime, consumption, and quality, highlighting variances against targets.
Coordinate with Logistics and Warehouse teams to ensure smooth dispatch and avoid production or storage bottlenecks.
Support cost control initiatives related to power consumption, spare parts, maintenance, and other production costs.
Support and monitor health and safety compliance across the plant floor.
Identify operational inefficiencies and process gaps and recommend corrective actions.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
8+ years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or industrial production environment, ideally within cement, grinding, or related heavy industry.
Strong hands-on experience in plant production operations, equipment performance, maintenance coordination, and production planning.
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to work comfortably with production, quality, consumption, and operational data.
Good understanding of cement grinding operations, including clinker, gypsum, additives, fineness, Blaine, and strength parameters, is highly desirable.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently on the plant floor.
Strong sense of ownership and accountability for production performance, safety, quality, and compliance.
Proactive and hands-on, with the ability to identify issues, investigate root causes, and follow through on corrective actions.
Comfortable checking and challenging production figures and operational data rather than simply accepting them at face value.
Strong leadership and coordination skills, with the ability to ensure procedures are consistently followed by shift teams.
Fluent in Arabic and English; French is a plus.
Willing to relocate to Ghana and work from the plant site.
Strong ambition and readiness to progressively take on full Production Manager responsibilities and independently run production operations as the role evolves.
