Job Description – Power BI Developer

Role Purpose

We are looking for an experienced Power BI Developer for a 10-week contract assignment. The role will focus on developing Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models to support audit, financial, asset, and historical transaction reporting using a consolidated SQL data platform.

The successful candidate will help modernise reporting and enquiry capabilities as part of the retirement of legacy applications. The candidate should have strong hands-on expertise in Power BI, DAX, Power Query, data modelling, SQL Server, and Azure SQL. The role will require working closely with business users and SMEs to understand requirements and deliver accurate, performant, and user-friendly reporting solutions.

Contract duration: 10 weeks

Key Responsibilities

• Gather and analyse reporting requirements from business users and subject matter experts.
  
• Develop and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models.
  
• Create advanced DAX measures, calculated columns, KPIs, drill-throughs, and interactive visualisations.
  
• Use Power Query for data extraction, transformation, cleansing, and preparation.
  
• Develop effective data models to support reporting and analytics requirements.
  
• Connect Power BI solutions with SQL Server and Azure SQL data sources.
  
• Validate report outputs against source data and defined reconciliation rules.
  
• Perform report, DAX, query, and data-model performance tuning.
  
• Ensure reports are accurate, scalable, intuitive, and user-friendly.
  
• Support UAT, defect resolution, deployment, and hypercare activities.
  
• Investigate and resolve reporting and data-related issues.
  
• Prepare technical and user documentation.
  
• Conduct knowledge-transfer sessions with relevant teams.
  
• Support the modernisation and retirement of legacy reporting applications.
  

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
  
• Strong expertise in DAX and advanced measure development.
  
• Strong knowledge of Power Query and data transformation.
  
• Excellent understanding of data modelling and semantic models.
  
• Strong experience with SQL Server and Azure SQL.
  
• Experience in Power BI report performance tuning and optimisation.
  
• Experience developing interactive dashboards with drill-through, slicers, filters, bookmarks, and other Power BI capabilities.
  
• Strong understanding of data validation, reconciliation, and reporting accuracy.
  
• Ability to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical reporting solutions.
  
• Strong stakeholder communication and requirements interpretation skills.
  
• Experience supporting UAT, production issues, and hypercare.
  
• Good documentation and knowledge-transfer skills.
