Senior Civil Designer

Help shape communities across North Queensland! 

We're looking for an experienced Senior Civil Designer with strong road design experience to play a key role in the delivery of transport, infrastructure and urban development projects across Townsville and Mackay. This role will suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of complex roadway and civil design packages while providing technical leadership and mentoring to other designers. This is an opportunity to combine hands-on technical design work with mentoring, leadership and project input, helping to support a growing design team while delivering quality outcomes for clients and communities.

As a Senior Civil Designer, you'll be responsible for delivering civil designs across a diverse portfolio of land development and infrastructure projects while providing technical guidance and oversight to junior designers.
Working closely with project managers, engineers and designers, you'll contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from design development and documentation through to quality reviews and client deliverables. You'll also play an important role in supporting project planning through fee estimates and proposal preparation, as well as helping improve design systems, processes and tools across the business.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in road design and associated civil infrastructure, combined with the ability to mentor junior designers and provide technical oversight across multiple projects and offices.

Key aspects of the role include:

• Delivering high-quality road, transport and civil infrastructure design solutions across a range of urban development and infrastructure projects.
• Preparing design calculations, plans, reports and submission documentation.
• Providing technical leadership, design reviews and quality assurance.
• Mentoring and supporting junior designers and drafters.
• Assisting with resource planning, fee estimates and proposal preparation.
• Working collaboratively with project teams, clients, councils and other stakeholders.
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of design practices, software and systems.

Requirements

Essential

• Significant experience in civil design, with a strong background in road design, intersection upgrades, transport infrastructure and civil works associated with urban development projects.
• Strong technical capability in civil design and documentation.
• Ability to review designs, provide technical direction and maintain quality standards.
• Experience mentoring or supervising designers and drafters.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

• Associate Degree in Civil Engineering or a related qualification.
• Experience preparing fee proposals and supporting project bids.
• Exposure to a broad range of development and infrastructure projects.
• 10+ years' experience in a civil design environment.
