Simulation-Based Work Experience Programme — Founding Cohort

Opportunity Overview

A strong Virtual Administrative Assistant does considerably more than manage a calendar. They create order, protect executive time, communicate professionally, anticipate problems, manage competing priorities and exercise judgement when instructions are incomplete.

This pathway places participants inside realistic simulated remote-working environments where multiple people need support and priorities can change quickly.

The responsibilities below represent the breadth of professional work available across the simulation library. Individual participants will encounter different combinations depending on the simulations they activate and may undertake simulations across other disciplines.

Workplace Responsibilities & Jobs to Be Done

  • Diary management: You may manage a busy simulated executive calendar, resolve competing meeting requests and determine which commitments require protection, movement or escalation.

  • Scheduling coordination: You may organise meetings involving multiple participants, organisations or time zones while accounting for availability, priorities and practical constraints.

  • Inbox and correspondence management: You may assess incoming communications, determine urgency and draft professional responses appropriate to recipient and context.

  • Meeting preparation: You may gather information, prepare agendas, organise supporting materials and ensure participants have what they need before a meeting.

  • Action management: You may capture actions and decisions following meetings, identify ownership and establish appropriate follow-up.

  • Priority management: You may receive several simultaneous requests and determine what should happen first based on urgency, importance, dependency and stakeholder impact.

  • Executive support: You may protect executive time, identify unnecessary interruptions and ensure important matters receive appropriate attention.

  • Remote-team coordination: You may support distributed colleagues by organising communications, meetings, documentation and follow-up across different working arrangements.

  • Information management: You may organise digital information so documents, decisions and relevant records can be located and used efficiently.

  • Research support: You may undertake structured research for a simulated executive or team and convert findings into concise, decision-useful summaries.

  • Travel and logistics planning: You may develop travel or logistical arrangements accounting for schedules, locations, timing, requirements and contingencies.

  • Confidentiality and discretion: You may encounter sensitive simulated information and determine appropriate handling, communication and escalation.

  • Problem resolution: You may encounter double bookings, missing information, late changes, stakeholder complaints or administrative errors and resolve them professionally.

  • Incomplete instructions: You may receive ambiguous requests and determine whether to clarify, proceed using reasonable judgement or escalate.

  • Professional communication: Throughout the simulations, you will communicate clearly, concisely and appropriately across different professional audiences.

Requirements

Professional Artefacts & Evidence of Work

  • Executive Diary Management Plan: You may produce a structured approach to organising a demanding calendar, resolving conflicts, protecting high-priority commitments and explaining scheduling decisions.

  • Professional Correspondence: You may produce emails or other written communications demonstrating appropriate tone, clarity, judgement, stakeholder awareness and understanding of context.

  • Meeting Agenda and Preparation Pack: You may develop a meeting package identifying objectives, agenda items, required information, supporting materials and participant preparation.

  • Meeting Action Tracker: You may create a clear record of decisions, actions, owners, deadlines and follow-up requirements arising from a simulated meeting.

  • Priority Management Plan: You may assess competing tasks and explain what should be handled immediately, scheduled, delegated, clarified or escalated and why.

  • Research Brief: You may synthesise researched information into a concise briefing designed to enable an executive or stakeholder to make an informed decision.

  • Travel or Logistics Plan: You may produce a structured itinerary or coordination plan addressing scheduling requirements, practical constraints, dependencies and contingencies.

  • Stakeholder Response: You may prepare a professional response to a difficult, urgent or ambiguous stakeholder request demonstrating communication, discretion and judgement.

  • Administrative Workflow: You may design a structured process for managing recurring administrative work more consistently, efficiently and reliably.

  • Executive Summary: You may convert a larger volume of information into a concise briefing containing the key facts, implications, priorities and actions required by a senior stakeholder.
