The Role
The Crane Technician will be responsible for the safe inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair,
testing and documentation of cranes and lifting equipment.
The role will ensure assigned crane assets remain safe, reliable and operational by carrying out preventive and
corrective maintenance, diagnosing equipment faults, supporting load and functional testing, maintaining
technical and certification records, and ensuring equipment is not returned to service until all required
inspection, testing and release conditions have been satisfied.
What You’ll Do
Crane Maintenance & Inspection
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on cranes and lifting equipment in accordance with
approved procedures, OEM requirements and maintenance schedules.
- Inspect critical crane systems and components, including hoisting, luffing, slewing, travelling, hydraulic
and braking systems.
- Inspect wire ropes, sheaves, drums, hooks, brakes, slewing components and other critical equipment
for wear, damage or abnormal conditions.
- Complete maintenance checklists, measurements and work orders accurately and escalate defects or
overdue work.
Fault Diagnosis, Repair & Overhaul
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, structural and electrical faults within assigned crane systems.
- Carry out competent repair, replacement and adjustment activities within assigned authority and
technical capability.
- Support strip-down, repair and reassembly of crane components, including hoisting equipment,
brakes, sheaves, drums, hooks and slewing components.
- Identify structural or critical component defects and escalate for specialist inspection, engineering or
NDT support
- Document faults, repairs, parts used, test results and outstanding concerns.
Testing & Return to Service
- Carry out or support approved crane load and functional testing within assigned competence and
authority.
- Verify that test equipment, test weights and rigging arrangements are certified and suitable before
testing.
- Conduct functional checks of hoisting, luffing, slewing, travelling and applicable safety devices following
maintenance or repair.
- Record test results accurately and escalate failed or inconclusive results.
- Support authorised return-to-service decisions with complete inspection and test evidence.
Certification & Technical Records
- Maintain accurate crane asset registers, maintenance histories, inspection, certification and service
records.
- Monitor certification and inspection due dates and escalate upcoming expiry or missing
documentation.
- Prepare accurate maintenance reports, defect notifications and technical records.
- Support Inspection Test Records, Non-Conformance Reports and punch-list close-out where
applicable.
- Apply applicable OEM, API, ASME, client, regulatory and site requirements.
Safe Work & Reliability
- Follow approved permit-to-work, isolation, lockout/tagout and maintenance procedures.
- Participate in toolbox talks, job safety analysis, pre-job briefings and approved lifting plans.
- Report equipment failures, defects, unsafe conditions, incidents and near misses promptly.
- Stop work where safety, equipment integrity, isolation or lifting controls are inadequate.
- Report recurring failures and contribute to root-cause analysis and reliability improvement.
Requirements
What We Are Looking For
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Structural
Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Relevant technical, professional or OEM certification in crane maintenance, inspection or lifting
equipment.
- Relevant training in crane safety, lifting operations, rigging, inspection, testing and HSEQ.
- Offshore/site certifications where required by the work location and client requirements.
Experience
- 5–8 years of relevant hands-on experience in crane maintenance, inspection, fault diagnosis,
repair and testing.
- Experience working with mobile, pedestal, overhead, knuckle-boom or offshore cranes,
depending on assigned equipment.
- Practical experience with mechanical, hydraulic, braking, hoisting, luffing and slewing
systems.
- Experience in preventive/corrective maintenance, component replacement, troubleshooting and
equipment testing.
- Experience in oil & gas, marine, offshore, heavy engineering or industrial maintenance
environments.
