Salary Range: $110,000 – $200,000 / year (dependent on experience, advanced degrees, location, and qualifications)
About the Role
Seeking an accomplished Senior Sediment Remediation Specialist to lead complex environmental investigations, numerical modeling efforts, and cleanup strategies for contaminated sediment sites in riverine, lacustrine, estuarine, and marine environments across primary LimnoTech office locations.
In this senior role, you will provide high-level technical leadership, project management, regulatory guidance, and business development for LimnoTech’s Contaminated Sediments practice. You will oversee the full lifecycle of sediment remediation programs—from Remedial Investigations/Feasibility Studies (RI/FS) and Conceptual Site Model (CSM) development to remedial alternative design (dredging, capping, Monitored Natural Recovery) and agency negotiations.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership: Direct the technical execution of complex sediment remediation projects, including RI/FS development, multi-media field sampling (sediment, surface water, porewater, biota), geostatistical data analysis, forensic chemical fingerprinting, and Conceptual Site Models (CSMs).
Remedial Design & Alternatives Analysis: Evaluate and design sediment cleanup technologies (environmental dredging, subaqueous capping, thin-layer placement, in-situ amendments, and Monitored Natural Recovery [MNR]); develop detailed remedial cost estimates.
Hydrodynamic & Fate/Transport Oversight: Guide numerical modeling efforts (hydrodynamics, sediment transport, and contaminant fate and transport) and interpret complex scientific findings for technical deliverables and client strategy.
Full-Lifecycle Project Management: Manage scopes of work, schedules, and multidisciplinary project teams; oversee financial performance, client communications, and on-time deliverable production.
Regulatory & Legal Support: Provide strategic regulatory expertise under CERCLA, RCRA, and state cleanup programs; lead agency technical negotiations and support litigation/expert witness efforts as needed.
Business Development: Lead proposal development, author qualifications packages, cultivate client relationships, and represent LimnoTech at major industry conferences (e.g., Battelle Sediment Conference).
Required Qualifications & Experience
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a closely related physical science discipline.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in contaminated sediment characterization, transport processes, and remedial design.
Health & Safety: Valid 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification with current annual 8-hour refreshers.
Professional Licensure/Credentials:
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license for engineering candidates, OR
Professional Geologist (PG) or equivalent professional credentials for science candidates.
Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of CERCLA, RCRA, and state-level sediment management frameworks.
Desired Qualifications
Master’s degree or Ph.D. with specialized research/focus in contaminant transport, sediment geochronology, or geochemical partitioning.
Hands-on experience with hydrodynamic and sediment transport numerical modeling or advanced environmental statistics.
Proven track record in expert witness testimony, dispute resolution, or litigation support.
Demonstrated interest or project experience in urban waterfront restoration, Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), or Engineering With Nature (EWN) principles.
Benefits & Compensation
As a 100% employee-owned (ESOP) company, LimnoTech offers an outstanding compensation and benefits package focused on long-term equity and career development:
