Consultant Gastroenterologist

We are hiring a  Consultant Gastroenterologist for a hospital located in Tralee, Ireland.

 Responsibilities

• Provide specialist consultant-level care in gastroenterology, assessing, diagnosing and managing patients with a broad range of gastrointestinal, liver and digestive disorders.
  

• Conduct outpatient consultations and provide appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment plans, working collaboratively with GPs, consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  

• Perform and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal procedures, including gastroscopy and colonoscopy, in accordance with recognised clinical standards and patient safety requirements.
  

• Provide specialist management of gastrointestinal conditions including inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease, chronic diarrhoea, reflux, liver and pancreatic disorders, gastrointestinal cancers and other digestive conditions.
  

• Participate in the assessment and management of patients requiring urgent or inpatient gastroenterology care, providing appropriate clinical advice and follow-up.
  

• Maintain accurate clinical documentation, investigation results and treatment plans while ensuring compliance with professional, hospital and regulatory requirements.
  

• Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, research and the development of gastroenterology services, promoting evidence-based practice and patient safety.
  
  
  

Requirements

• Hold a recognised primary medical qualification and be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of Ireland.
  

• Hold Specialist Registration in Gastroenterology and Medicine with the Irish Medical Council, or have the qualifications and experience required to obtain specialist registration. Bon Secours consultant profiles demonstrate specialist registration in Gastroenterology and Medicine as a relevant requirement.
  

• Have completed recognised higher specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology/Internal Medicine or an equivalent recognised specialist training programme.
  

• Demonstrate substantial experience in gastroenterology, including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy where applicable.
  

• Demonstrate excellent clinical, diagnostic, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  

• Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development, clinical audit, quality improvement, research and evidence-based practice.
