Blue Oak Consulting
Interface Developer Intern
Mombasa, KEOn-siteContractFull-time
Posted Aug 23, 2026
We are looking for an Interface Developer Intern to support our team as we build digital tools for a Nairobi-based financial services group. This role focuses on creating functional and logical interfaces that help our consultants and clients visualize complex financial models and pricing scenarios.
About Blue Oak Consulting
Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.
The Role
In this position, you will work closely with our principals to build the digital front end of our proprietary analysis tools. While most of our work begins in spreadsheets, the complexity of our engagements (such as our current project with a Nairobi-based financial services group) requires more accessible interfaces for testing assumptions. You will be responsible for translating financial logic into functional web components. This is a fully remote role, meaning you will need to be comfortable managing your own time and communicating clearly through written updates and video calls. You will not be building marketing sites: you will be building tools that help experts make better decisions about capital. We value simplicity and clarity over flashy design, focusing on how data is presented and how users interact with financial inputs.

What You Will Be Doing
- Building and maintaining user interfaces for our internal financial modeling tools using modern web technologies.
- Collaborating with our analysts to understand how they interact with pricing data and portfolio economics.
- Translating static financial models into interactive prototypes that allow for real time sensitivity testing.
- Cleaning and structuring data to ensure it displays correctly across different interface components.
- Assisting in the development of dashboards that track capital allocation and value leakage for our clients.
- Ensuring that all digital tools remain focused on utility and logical flow rather than unnecessary visual flair.
- Documenting the logic behind interface changes to ensure the team understands how the tools function.
- Participating in remote team meetings to discuss the technical requirements of our ongoing project for a Nairobi-based group.
- A fundamental understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with a curiosity for how these tools can solve financial problems.
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- A logical mindset and a healthy dose of skepticism when looking at how data is presented.
- The ability to work independently in a fully remote environment without needing constant supervision.
- Basic knowledge of how financial statements or pricing models work, or a strong willingness to learn these concepts.
- An organized approach to code and documentation, ensuring that others can follow your work.
- Comfort with receiving direct, analytical feedback on your work from firm principals.
- A preference for plain English and clear communication over technical jargon or corporate buzzwords.
- A fully remote work arrangement that offers flexibility and eliminates the need for commuting.
- Competitive pay for an internship role, reflecting the value we place on our team members.
- Direct exposure to the work of senior principals who have deep experience in economics and advisory.
- Practical experience working on high stakes projects, such as our current engagement with a Nairobi-based financial services group.
- A workplace culture that values discipline, honesty, and financial rigor over corporate politics.
- The opportunity to build tools that have a tangible effect on how businesses allocate their capital.
