Principal Network Engineer – Data Centre & Automation – freelance – Bangalore, India

Comgent is seeking a Principal Network Engineer to provide data centre networking expertise, platform certification and automation. You will work closely with customer teams on network design, production incidents, hardware and software testing, documentation and operational best practices. The assignment combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership and mentoring.

Assignment

• Location: Bangalore, India
  
• Engagement: freelance / contract
  
• Work arrangement: Hybrid — average two office days per week
  
• Schedule: 40 hours per week
  

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary customer technical contact and subject matter expert for data centre networking, developing a detailed understanding of customer deployments and use cases.
  
• Provide advanced break/fix support, diagnose incidents, restore service and identify ways to reduce recurrence.
  
• Advise on Junos configurations and network designs, and test hardware and software features against practical operating requirements.
  
• Develop Python scripts and test automation, and use empirical analysis, modelling and testing to validate designs and specifications.
  
• Review designs and project activities against engineering standards, coordinate with internal teams and development partners, and give constructive quality feedback.
  
• Contribute domain expertise and technical leadership to cross-team projects, assess new technologies, and mentor junior colleagues.
  

Requirements

• Typically 10+ years of experience in data centre routing, switching and network architecture, including hands-on Juniper QFX, PTX, MX and EX platforms.
  
• Data centre routing, switching and architecture; Junos/Junos EVO software/hardware certification; Python test automation.
  
• Technology environment: QFX, PTX, MX, EX.
  
• Education: Electrical Engineering / Computer Science bachelor/master, or equivalent.
  
• Use appropriate engineering design tools and software to develop solutions, with practical experience validating product designs and specifications through analysis and testing.
  

Competencies

Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation and English communication skills are needed. You should be able to present architecture and design proposals, explain trade-offs and negotiate technical options with senior stakeholders.
