Clinical Nurse Specialist – Endocrinology

We are currently hiring a Clinical Nurse Specialist-Endocrinology to join a leading hospital in South Dublin, Ireland.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate specialist nursing care for patients with a wide range of endocrine conditions, ensuring high standards of patient-centred care.
  • Manage patients with complex endocrine disorders, including thyroid, pituitary, adrenal, parathyroid, metabolic bone diseases, PCOS, and neuroendocrine conditions, in collaboration with consultant endocrinologists.
  • Coordinate and support endocrine investigations, including Endocrine Dynamic Testing, ensuring safe and effective patient assessment and monitoring.
  • Monitor patients receiving hormone replacement therapies and other endocrine treatments, reviewing laboratory and diagnostic results in partnership with the endocrinology team.
  • Deliver specialist outpatient, inpatient, and telephone-based support services, including nurse-led clinics, patient follow-up, and self-management programmes.
  • Provide education and support to patients, families, and healthcare professionals on endocrine conditions, treatment plans, lifestyle modifications, and ongoing disease management.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and maintain evidence-based clinical pathways, protocols, and service improvements.
  • Demonstrate advanced clinical decision-making, manage an independent caseload within scope of practice, and ensure seamless transitions of care from admission through discharge and community follow-up.
  • Participate in research, clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, and accreditation activities, promoting evidence-based practice and enhancing patient outcomes.
  • Act as a mentor, educator, and professional role model for students and newly appointed staff while maintaining professional competence, continuous learning, and compliance with mandatory training requirements.


Requirements

  • Current registration as a Registered General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) and in good professional standing.
  • A recognised post-registration qualification relevant to the specialty area at Level 9 (desirable).
  • A minimum of five years' post-registration nursing experience in an acute medical setting.
  • Previous experience in endocrinology, diabetes/endocrinology, or medical nursing is desirable, with a strong interest in developing specialist expertise in endocrinology.
  • Willingness to undertake a structured in-house training programme and develop specialist endocrinology knowledge and skills under the guidance of the Endocrinology Team.
  • Demonstrated teaching, leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to support patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Excellent organisational, multitasking, and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload effectively and manage competing demands.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly, liaise effectively with stakeholders, and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven ability to plan, organise, adapt to change, and contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and national healthcare strategies.
  • Professional, motivated, and innovative approach to practice, with up-to-date clinical knowledge, experience in audit and data collection activities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
