Role Overview

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced legal professional who has developed a strong interest in legal technology, Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM), legal operations and product development.

This is not a traditional Attorney or Contract Manager position. The role sits at the intersection of law, technology, product and client delivery, translating real-world legal and contracting requirements into practical technology solutions.

The successful candidate will work across the full contract lifecycle, from contract intake and pre-signature legal processes through to execution, contract management, obligations, renewals, reporting and AI-assisted contract review.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the legal subject-matter specialist between legal users, clients, product teams and software developers.
  
• Translate legal, commercial and client requirements into structured workflows, system requirements, contract data and product functionality.
  
• Support the design and optimisation of end-to-end contract lifecycle processes, including contract intake, drafting, review, negotiation, approvals, e-signature and post-signature management.
  
• Review and configure contract metadata, key commercial terms, risks, obligations, tasks, events and lifecycle requirements.
  
• Develop and refine contract risk playbook's and clause-based risk assessments.
  
• Test and validate AI-assisted legal functionality, including contract summarisation, clause and data extraction, risk identification, FAQs, document comparison and contract intelligence.
  
• Apply legal judgement when assessing the accuracy and practical usefulness of AI-generated outputs.
  
• Create realistic contracts, amendments and legal scenarios for product configuration and testing.
  
• Plan and conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including functional, regression, edge-case and negative testing.
  
• Investigate product defects and determine whether issues relate to software, AI/extraction, configuration, data or user processes.
  
• Translate business and legal requirements into functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria and product enhancements.
  
• Support contract migration, classification, data cleansing, contract linking and data-quality exercises.
  
• Work with large contract datasets and use Excel for reconciliation, validation, tracking and analysis.
  
• Support product releases, upgrades and client-environment validation.
  
• Engage with clients to understand legal and contract-management processes, pain points and requirements.
  
• Deliver product demonstrations, UAT sessions, training and supporting documentation.
  
• Support reporting and dashboards relating to contracts, renewals, obligations, tasks, risks and other lifecycle information.
  
• Work closely with Product, Development, Implementation, QA, Support and Client Success teams.
  

Requirements

Essential

• LL.B or equivalent legal qualification.
  
• Strong practical knowledge of commercial contracts and contractual interpretation.
  
• Relevant experience in commercial legal work, contract drafting and review, contract management, legal operations or a related environment.
  
• Experience working within legal technology, Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM), matter management, enterprise software or a product-focused environment.
  
• Ability to translate legal concepts and business requirements into structured processes, workflows and functional requirements.
  
• Hands-on experience with UAT, product testing, defect investigation and validation of system functionality.
  
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  
• Experience working with contract data, metadata and detailed document-based scenarios.
  
• Advanced working proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  

Highly Advantageous

• Admitted Attorney with post-qualification commercial legal experience.
  
• Experience with AI-assisted contract review, generative AI, NLP, automated clause extraction or contract intelligence.
  
• Hands-on experience with a Contract Lifecycle Management platform.
  
• Experience configuring contract types, metadata, risks, obligations, tasks, events and workflows.
  
• Understanding of e-signature, document collaboration, Delegation of Authority (DoA), matter management and post-signature contract management.
  
• Experience working within Agile or software product-development environments.
  
• Experience creating user stories, requirements and acceptance criteria and working directly with software developers.
  
• Contract migration, data cleansing, classification, deduplication or contract-linking experience.
  
• Experience delivering legal-tech demonstrations, client UAT or training.
  
• Exposure to FICA/KYC, POPIA or other compliance-related workflows.

This opportunity would suit an experienced legal professional who has moved, or is looking to move further, into legal technology, CLM, legal operations or legal product work.

You should enjoy the detail involved in understanding contracts and commercial legal risk, while also being interested in how technology, data and AI can improve the way legal teams manage their work.

You will need to be equally comfortable interpreting a contractual clause, analysing structured contract data, testing system functionality, discussing requirements with developers and demonstrating a solution to a client.
