RecruitNet International Ltd specialises in healthcare recruitment for domestic and overseas candidates across hospitals, nursing homes, home care and community care.
We are hiring a Basic Grade Medical Scientist – Biochemistry (FTC) for a leading hospital in Dublin, Ireland.
- Initially a 6-month contract, with the possibility of a further 6-month extension
Responsibilities
-
Assist in developing, maintaining and implementing laboratory procedures and ensuring the proper use of testing equipment.

Support the implementation of operational procedures in line with best practice standards to ensure effective and efficient use of resources.

Participate in quality management programmes, including internal and external quality control, audits, performance monitoring and client satisfaction activities.

Perform scientific duties in accordance with JCI and, where applicable, INAB accreditation standards and relevant EU requirements for blood and blood products.

Organise and prioritise workload during busy periods, coordinate multiple testing activities and participate in the departmental on-call rota when required.

Support the evaluation and introduction of new technologies, equipment, consumables, drugs and research initiatives in collaboration with medical and scientific staff.

Assist with laboratory stock management, investigate and report incidents, complaints, equipment defects and supply issues in accordance with hospital procedures.

Participate in staff training, professional development and the promotion of effective communication, teamwork and professional standards within the laboratory.

Support the implementation of health and safety procedures, accident prevention measures, laboratory information systems and the collection and reporting of departmental data.

Participate in performance reviews and the achievement of laboratory objectives, while demonstrating flexibility and undertaking other duties appropriate to the role as required by management.
Requirements

Hold or be eligible for membership of the Academy of Medical Laboratory Science (AMLS) or an equivalent professional body, with current registration or eligibility for registration with CORU.

Have a minimum of one year’s structured training across relevant laboratory disciplines, with essential experience in Biochemistry.

Post-qualification laboratory experience and experience participating in emergency on-call rotas are desirable.

Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with laboratory management and other hospital departments.

Demonstrate knowledge of modern laboratory practices, quality management systems, accreditation standards, relevant legislation, quality control requirements and safe laboratory practices.

Have an understanding of laboratory information systems, other hospital departments and commonly used IT applications supporting laboratory and administrative functions.

Demonstrate adaptability to changes within healthcare services, a professional and dedicated approach, and the ability to contribute effectively as part of a multidisciplinary laboratory team.
