Job Description

Disruptive Recruitment is seeking an experienced Asphalt Production Manager for an established Australian infrastructure and construction materials business.

This is a senior operational leadership opportunity responsible for the safe, compliant and cost-effective production of asphalt across multiple plant operations in Western Australia.

The successful candidate will take ownership of day-to-day production, plant reliability, maintenance, financial performance and people leadership, ensuring production output consistently meets the demands of road construction projects and external customers.

We are looking for a commercially minded, hands-on leader who can manage operational performance, strengthen accountability and drive continuous improvement across people, processes and plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead asphalt production operations across multiple sites, ensuring safe, efficient and reliable output.
  

• Plan, schedule and execute production to meet contracting requirements and external customer demand.
  

• Oversee plant availability, utilisation, preventative maintenance, servicing and breakdown response.
  

• Manage raw material supply, including aggregates, bitumen, fillers, additives and reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP).
  

• Monitor production costs, labour productivity, material variance and maintenance expenditure against budgets.
  

• Take ownership of operational P&L performance, including budgeting, variance analysis and cost improvement.
  

• Identify and implement opportunities to improve profitability, production efficiency and plant reliability.
  

• Ensure compliance with workplace health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
  

• Lead incident investigations, corrective actions and continuous safety improvement initiatives.
  

• Manage and develop plant foremen, operators, maintenance personnel and production support teams.
  

• Establish clear performance expectations, workforce planning and accountability measures.
  

• Coordinate with paving, technical, commercial and estimating teams to ensure production aligns with project requirements.
  

• Oversee plant maintenance strategies, capital improvement projects and asset planning.
  

• Prepare regular operational reports covering production, cost, quality, safety and plant reliability.
  

• Build a high-performance culture focused on ownership, teamwork, accountability and continuous improvement.
  

Requirements

• Significant experience in asphalt production or closely related heavy industrial or construction materials manufacturing, typically 8+ years.
  

• Proven experience leading multi-site or multi-team production operations.
  

• Strong technical understanding of asphalt manufacturing, including plant operations, mix design fundamentals, raw materials and quality control.
  

• Demonstrated financial accountability, including operational P&L, budget management, variance analysis and cost improvement.
  

• Experience managing plant reliability, maintenance programs and production schedules.
  

• Strong workplace health and safety leadership experience.
  

• Working knowledge of environmental compliance obligations within asphalt manufacturing, including emissions, dust, noise and relevant regulatory requirements.
  

• Proven ability to lead, develop and performance-manage operational teams.
  

• Strong commercial judgment, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  

• Ability to work effectively across production, contracting, technical and commercial functions.
  

• Current driver's license.
  

Highly Regarded

• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Construction Management or a related technical discipline.
  

• Experience with RAP and warm mix asphalt technologies.
  

• Familiarity with NATA-accredited quality systems and Main Roads or state road authority specifications.
  

• Experience managing capital projects and plant upgrades.
  

• Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent.

For an exceptional candidate with demonstrated capability across both asphalt production management and technical leadership, a broader combined role may be considered, with remuneration of approximately AUD $200,000+  per annum, subject to experience and agreement on the scope of responsibilities.
