Lend a Paw, Lift a Spirit – Volunteer with Your Dog- Residential Aged Care, Wahroonga

Do you have a four-legged friend who loves making people smile? Join us as a Pet Therapy Volunteer and bring your furry companion along to spread tail wags, cuddles, and joy to aged care residents. A friendly dog can brighten a day in ways words sometimes can't, creating moments of comfort, connection, and happiness.

The most rewarding visits happen when both volunteer and dog are calm, gentle, and confident. A good understanding of your dog's personality, combined with a patient and reassuring nature around frail older people, including those living with dementia, helps create positive and meaningful interactions for everyone involved.

Together, you'll share smiles, spark happy memories, and create heart-warming moments that residents look forward to long after the visit ends.

As you're bringing your pet into a care environment with frail and elderly residents, we ask that your pet is:

• Calm and gentle in nature
  

• Up-to-date with vaccinations and treatment of worms and fleas
  

• Nails should be short and blunt. Freshly cut nails can be sharp if not filed down.
  

• Dogs should be kept on a lead always.
  

Your impact

Volunteering as a social visitor can be a rewarding experience, both for the person you visit as well as yourself. Regular visits from volunteers can help to improve quality of life and help people feel less isolated.

We have a wonderful group of volunteers that partner with us to enhance the lives of people cared for by HammondCare. HammondCare is a provider of The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme funded by the Australian Government and is established to promote links between elderly people and volunteers in their local community.

Requirements

18 years or older • NDIS Worker Screening Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare • Pet needs to be over 12 months old, Up-to-date with vaccinations and treatment of worms and fleas.

We’d be happy to discuss your availability for a one-hour (or longer) commitment on a weekly or fortnightly basis, anytime between 9am-12pm or 1pm- 5pm, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
