Who we are
Born in 2014, Yoti is a digital identity and biometric technology company that makes it safer for people to prove who they are. The Yoti app was designed with privacy at its core, giving people a secure way to prove their identity and share third-party credentials with organisations and other people.
Today, we have over twenty million app downloads around the world. We’ve expanded our offering to a suite of business solutions that span identity verification, age verification and estimation, e-signing, AI anti-spoofing technologies and we continue to think of innovative new offerings.
From day one, we’ve been working to fix an outdated identity system. This is not a journey we make on our own but with policy advisors, think tanks, researchers, academics, humanitarian bodies, our users and everyday people. We are committed to solving identity problems through grassroots research and social purpose initiatives.
Our dedication to our mission and our team is why Yoti was proudly named one of the Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2026 in the UK.
About the role
You will manage two squads of 5-7 engineers, delivering across several Yoti products. There are a number of additional critical responsibilities aside from general engineering management.
The first is security. You own secure by design practice for the services your teams run: threat models, review discipline, dependency and secrets hygiene, and the unglamorous work of closing findings before an auditor asks about them.
The second is AI, and we mean something specific by it. This is not a role about training models. It is about how software gets built here. We are standardising on an AI native SDLC, and we are building it now.
We measure outcomes and we expect a Senior Team Lead to have a view on what should be built and how much of it, not just how fast it can ship. If a spec asks for six months of work to reach a result you could test in three weeks, we want you to say so before our time investment.
What AI native means here
Our engineers work with coding agents daily, mostly Claude Code, and the standard is written to work across Codex and Copilot too. Three things sit underneath it:
- Work is spec driven. A change is described as a spec before it is built, and a verification gate scores that spec and checks it against a short engineering constitution before anyone starts implementing.
- Capabilities are skills, not prompts people keep in a scratch file. Commands and agents are committed as SKILL and files in a shared repository, so a skill written once works in every assistant the team uses.
- Context is shared, not copied. Project context lives in AGENTS and company knowledge lives in one knowledge repository that both humans and agents read.
So thinking in agents and skills is a real part of the job. When a task keeps recurring, the answer is usually a skill in the shared repository or a variant of an existing one, not another private workflow that nobody else can find.
What you'll do
Lead the teams
- Manage a team lead and engineers across two squads: hiring, onboarding, growth, performance and retention.
- Coach and develop team leads and engineers, and build the bench beneath you.
- Set how the teams work day to day, including planning, review, on call and postmortems.
- Make it safe to raise a security concern or say an agent's output is wrong, even when it slows a release down.
Scope and ship products
- Partner with product managers as a peer. Push back on scope, propose smaller versions that answer the same question, and know which requirements really matter.
- Hold the teams to the outcome behind the work. Be able to say what a release was supposed to change for a customer, and whether it did.
- Own delivery end to end for your squads: scope, sequencing, dependencies, quality and a release cadence people can plan around.
- Arbitrate between products competing for the same shared platform work, and be honest with everyone about the trade offs.
- Keep reliability, security and compliance work funded alongside features instead of parked behind them.
- Represent your teams to stakeholders in the UK and other Yoti locations, and to customers when it helps.
Own security engineering
- Make threat modelling, secure review, dependency and supply chain management, secrets handling and least privilege access normal practice rather than a checklist.
- Drive remediation from penetration tests, bug bounty reports and internal reviews, with named owners and dates.
- Lead your teams' part in incident response, including out of hours escalation and postmortems that name causes rather than people.
- Treat biometric and identity data with the retention and minimisation discipline it needs.
What we're looking for
Essential
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Substantial engineering management experience, typically 7 years or more, including managing senior engineers or tech leads, on top of a strong hands on background.
- Building or scaling an engineering team in India inside a globally distributed company.
- Salesforce experience, working with it or on it directly
- Experience with one or more of the following languages, Javascript, Typescript, Golang or Apex
- Experience with postgres
- A Harness experience like claude code, codex or Cursor.
- Experience running more than one team or workstream at once, across multiple products.
- You use a coding agent daily and have opinions about it. You can say what you delegate, what you read line by line, and where agents reliably let you down.
- You have built reusable AI capability, not just had good chats: skills, subagents, prompts or tooling that other people went on to use.
- A real track record of shipping and running secure production software. You can talk about threat models you wrote, findings you prioritised and incidents you led.
- A product instinct. You have shaped scope, cut features that were not earning their place, and can point at outcomes your teams moved rather than a list of things they shipped.
- Comfort with written specs and design docs as the way decisions get made, since the verification gate depends on it.
- Solid modern backend engineering, CRM experience, cloud experience and containers and CI/CD.
- Clear writing, and the patience to work with colleagues several time zones away.
- Judgement about risk. You know when to block a release and when the right answer is to ship with a mitigation and a date.
Nice to have
- Claude Code in particular: subagents, MCP servers, plugins, or packaging skills for a team to install.
- Spec driven development with OpenSpec, Spec Kit or something similar.
- Identity, biometrics, age assurance, fintech or another regulated and privacy sensitive domain.
- Exposure to audit and certification work, and to the security questionnaires that come with enterprise customers.
