Mechatronics Engineering Manager

Are you an experienced Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineer who has progressed into engineering leadership without losing your hands-on technical capability?

We’re recruiting an Engineering Manager for an established industrial engineering and process solutions business. This is a senior leadership position, but it is not a purely managerial role.

We need someone who can lead a multidisciplinary engineering team while remaining technically credible enough to review, challenge and approve engineering designs, identify where something is technically wrong and guide the team towards the right solution.

The Role

You’ll take responsibility for the leadership and technical governance of a multidisciplinary engineering function, working across mechanical, electrical/electronic, instrumentation and automation disciplines.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  
• Take ownership of engineering design and technical governance.
  
• Review engineering designs, calculations, drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  
• Challenge designs constructively and provide technical direction where required.
  
• Ensure engineering work meets appropriate technical, quality, safety and regulatory standards.
  
• Oversee design reviews, approvals and engineering change processes.
  
• Provide technical leadership on custom-engineered and integrated solutions.
  
• Work closely with Sales, Projects, Production, Service, Procurement and Quality.
  
• Support technical proposals, tenders, costing and complex client requirements.
  
• Resolve engineering problems through sound technical analysis and root-cause investigation.
  
• Drive improvements in engineering standards, processes, products and design practices.
  
• Mentor engineers and build the technical capability of the engineering team.
  
• Represent the engineering function confidently in multidisciplinary technical and client discussions.
  
  

Requirements

• BEng / BSc Engineering degree – ideally Mechatronics Engineering.
  
• Alternatively, a Mechanical Engineer with strong electrical/electronic, instrumentation, controls or automation exposure will be considered.
  
• Approximately 10+ years' relevant engineering experience with progression into engineering leadership.
  
• Strong background in engineering design, you must have remained technically involved rather than moving entirely into project or people management.
  
• Demonstrated experience conducting design reviews, technical verification and/or engineering approvals.
  
• Broad multidisciplinary understanding across mechanical and electrical/electronic engineering.
  
• Experience leading engineers and providing technical guidance to other engineering disciplines.
  
• Strong exposure to custom, bespoke or integrated engineered solutions.
  
• Experience within an industrial, process plant, mining, automation, manufacturing, machinery or similar engineering environment.
  
• Strong problem-solving ability with the confidence to challenge technical decisions and defend engineering recommendations.
  
• The maturity and leadership presence to work with senior clients and multidisciplinary technical teams.
  
• Comfortable working in and travelling to industrial and process plant environments when required.
  
• Valid driver's licence and passport.
