Technical Project Manager / Solutions Engineer

This is a remote position.

We are seeking a Technical Project Manager / Solutions Engineer to serve as the bridge between project management, engineering, field implementation, and the client.

This is a hybrid role for someone who can understand a technical scope, help develop and validate the solution, coordinate the project, and participate directly in technical implementation when required.

Projects may include network infrastructure refreshes, firewall and switching deployments, UniFi environments, wireless implementations, VLAN segmentation, VPN deployments, structured cabling coordination, Microsoft 365 migrations, MFA implementations, and cloud/data migrations.

The ideal candidate combines the organizational discipline of a Project Manager with the technical judgment of a Network / Systems Engineer.

Requirements

Technical Planning & Solution Development

• Review client requirements, existing infrastructure, and approved scopes.
  
• Translate business and technical requirements into practical implementation plans.
  
• Review network diagrams, equipment requirements, migration plans, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.
  
• Identify technical risks, missing information, and potential scope issues before implementation.
  
• Participate in solution design and technical discovery.
  
• Develop or review implementation runbooks and cutover plans.
  

Project Management

• Own project schedules, milestones, dependencies, communications, and deliverables.
  
• Lead project kickoffs and maintain regular client communication.
  
• Coordinate engineers, technicians, installers, vendors, and third-party providers.
  
• Manage maintenance windows and implementation schedules.
  
• Maintain project status, risk, issue, and change-control documentation.
  
• Monitor project labor and resource requirements.
  
• Identify scope changes and coordinate approval before additional work is performed.
  

Hands-On Engineering

• Configure and deploy network infrastructure when required.
  
• Work with firewalls, managed switches, UniFi controllers, wireless access points, VLANs, VPNs, routing, DHCP, DNS, monitoring, and network security controls.
  
• Participate in wireless deployments and performance validation.
  
• Support Microsoft 365 migrations, tenant configuration, MFA, Conditional Access, Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams projects.
  
• Configure or review migration tooling and validate migration results.
  
• Troubleshoot technical issues encountered during implementation.
  
• Participate directly in production cutovers and post-cutover validation.
  

Implementation & Validation

• Coordinate and/or perform pre-staging of equipment and configurations.
  
• Confirm technical prerequisites before implementation.
  
• Lead or participate in production cutovers.
  
• Validate network connectivity, routing, authentication, applications, wireless, VPN, monitoring, backups, and other in-scope services.
  
• Verify that completed work satisfies documented acceptance criteria.
  
• Coordinate remediation of issues discovered during testing.
  

Client & Stakeholder Management

• Act as a technical point of contact for clients.
  
• Explain technical requirements, risks, limitations, and expected project impacts.
  
• Translate technical information into understandable business terms.
  
• Coordinate client approvals, access, credentials, maintenance windows, and user communications.
  
• Set appropriate expectations regarding downtime, migration limitations, and project dependencies.
  

Documentation & Handoff

• Maintain project and technical documentation throughout the project.
  
• Update network diagrams, VLAN/IP information, port maps, equipment inventories, migration records, and configuration documentation.
  
• Maintain implementation runbooks and project closure records.
  
• Provide technical handoff information to support teams.
  
• Conduct post-project reviews and document lessons learned.
  

Required Qualifications

• Professional experience in IT infrastructure engineering, technical project management, systems administration, network engineering, or a comparable role.
  
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, DHCP, DNS, and wireless.
  
• Experience with infrastructure implementations and production cutovers.
  
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate technical projects from planning through completion.
  
• Strong client-facing communication skills.
  
• Ability to understand technical documentation and project scopes.
  
• Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  
• Ability to balance hands-on technical work with project coordination responsibilities.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Ubiquiti UniFi switching, wireless, and network management.
  
• Experience with next-generation firewalls, VPNs, WAN failover, and network segmentation.
  
• Experience with Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, and Microsoft Entra.
  
• Experience implementing Conditional Access and MFA.
  
• Experience with cloud-to-cloud and file-server migrations.
  
• Experience with wireless heatmap surveys and RF optimization.
  
• Experience coordinating structured cabling and low-voltage infrastructure.
  
• Experience working for an MSP, managed service provider, technology integrator, or IT infrastructure provider.
  
• Relevant networking, Microsoft, or project-management certifications.
  

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who can walk into a project and understand both what needs to be built and how to get it delivered.

You should be technically credible enough to work alongside engineers and field technicians, while also being organized enough to manage schedules, clients, scope, risks, documentation, and project closure.

This position is particularly suited to an experienced Network Engineer who has developed project-management responsibilities, or a Technical Project Manager with strong hands-on infrastructure experience.
