Scientist III

Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and highly analytical Scientist III to join our multidisciplinary defense research and engineering team in Crane, Indiana. This mid-to-senior level role focuses on conducting advanced scientific research, experimental design, and data modeling to support naval warfare systems, strategic electronics, and sensor technologies. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between theoretical physics/chemistry and applied defense applications, transforming complex scientific discoveries into mission-critical engineering solutions

Requirements

Required Qualifications • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related scientific discipline. • Experience: Minimum of 5 to 8 years of post-graduate professional research experience, preferably within aerospace, defense, or national laboratory environments (Master's or Ph.D. counts toward experience). • Security Clearance: Active DoD Secret security clearance with the clear ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance. • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in data acquisition systems, precision laboratory instrumentation, and mathematical modeling software. • Analytical Mindset: Strong background in statistical error analysis, experimental design framework, and root-cause analysis.

Preferred Qualifications • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, or Material Science. • Prior experience working with Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane divisions or similar military research entities. • Familiarity with semiconductor physics, microelectronics radiation effects, or electro-optical / infrared (EO/IR) sensor systems. • Proficiency in automating laboratory instruments and developing custom analysis pipelines via Python or LabVIEW

Must be able to obtain or have secret or top secret clearance.
