About us
The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.
The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) at the University of Luxembourg contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences and Medicine.
Through its dual mission of teaching and research, the FSTM seeks to generate and disseminate knowledge and train new generations of responsible citizens in order to better understand, explain and advance society and the environment we live in.
Your role
We are seeking a highly motivated doctoral candidate to investigate how atomic-scale structure, defects, composition, and interfaces govern the electronic and optical properties of two-dimensional halide perovskites. Selected 2D perovskites will be synthesized using physical vapor deposition. Atomic-scale characterization will be carried out using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Chemical and electronic structure analysis will be performed using photoelectron spectroscopy, while photoluminescence measurements will be employed to elucidate the relationship between defects and emission properties. The aim of this project is to combine atomically resolved imaging via scanning probe techniques with optical spectroscopy to establish structure-property relationships and gain a deeper understanding of the optoelectronic properties of 2D perovskite layers.
The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team working at the forefront of nanoscience and advanced functional materials. The position offers access to state-of-the-art characterization facilities and opportunities to collaborate with leading international research groups. The candidate will be part of the doctoral training unit that focuses on materials for sun powered energy transition.
