Junior Automation Specialist

Gulf Associates is recruiting a Junior Automation Specialist to join our fully remote team. We provide commercial advisory services for complex investments and partnerships, prioritizing ground reality and commercial judgment over generic theoretical reports. This specific role focuses on supporting a significant engagement with a major Dutch logistics firm. You will assist our senior partners by building and maintaining internal tools that automate the collection and processing of counterparty data, ensuring our advice is based on what is happening in the market right now.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain simple scripts to automate the collection of market data and counterparty information for our logistics client project.
• Clean and organize large datasets to ensure the information used in our commercial reports is accurate and reliable.
• Support the senior team by creating automated workflows that reduce the time spent on repetitive data entry and information gathering.
• Monitor existing automation tools to ensure they remain functional and update them as the requirements of the territory change.
• Collaborate with researchers to understand their manual processes and identify areas where simple technical solutions can improve speed.
• Assist in the preparation of client positions by providing clear, structured data outputs that support commercial logic.
• Test new internal tools to ensure they produce consistent results across different operating environments.
• Document the logic behind your automation scripts so other team members can understand and use them effectively.

What you bring

• Basic proficiency in a scripting language like Python or JavaScript, particularly for data scraping or workflow automation.
• A strong sense of commercial curiosity and a desire to understand how data supports high-stakes investment decisions.
• Excellent attention to detail, specifically regarding the accuracy and integrity of data used for client advice.
• The ability to explain technical tasks in plain language to colleagues who focus on commercial strategy.
• A logical approach to problem solving and the patience to troubleshoot scripts when data sources change.
• Willingness to learn new tools and adapt your approach based on the specific needs of a project or market.
• Clear written communication skills for reporting on findings and explaining technical workflows.
• Previous experience with spreadsheets and basic data analysis tools from university projects or internships.
