AI Energy Management & Microgrid Control Engineer (PhD) - M/F

You will design, develop and validate advanced energy management and control solutions for resilient microgrids integrating battery energy storage systems and renewable energy sources. You will work on AI-driven optimization, predictive control strategies and battery management algorithms to ensure reliable, efficient and safe operation of critical energy infrastructures. Your responsibilities will include modelling and simulation, control algorithm development, real-time validation, performance analysis and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative and sustainable energy solutions with real-world impact.

Your profile:

• PhD or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Control Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
• Strong experience in microgrids, power systems, renewable energy integration, battery energy storage systems (BESS) or energy management systems.
• Hands-on expertise in AI/ML, optimization, predictive control, reinforcement learning or data-driven control applied to energy systems.
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB/Simulink and simulation/modeling environments.
• Experience with microgrid modelling, control design, power system simulation tools, real-time simulation or Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
• Good understanding of battery management systems (BMS), state-of-charge estimation, battery ageing and safety constraints.
• Ability to translate research concepts into practical and scalable engineering solutions.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical documentation skills.
• Experience with second-life battery applications is considered a strong asset.
• Knowledge of optimization frameworks, digital twins, smart grids or advanced energy control architectures is a plus.
• Comfortable working in international and multidisciplinary environments.
• Fluent English is mandatory; French is a strong advantage.
