Tooling Specialist - Precision CNC Manufacturing
Location: West side of Rochester, NY
Employment: Direct Hire, non-exempt
Base Pay Range: $18.00 to $25.00 per hour. This is the good-faith hourly range expected for this opportunity at the time of posting. Actual pay may vary within the range based on relevant experience, demonstrated tooling knowledge, and other lawful, job-related factors.
Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:30AM to 4PM
Position Summary
Support the production of precision CNC-machined components used in demanding aerospace and defense applications by ensuring machinists and production teams receive the correct cutting tools, toolboxes, and special tooling when needed. Maintain the accuracy, condition, organization, and traceability of the tool crib in a hands-on, non-supervisory manufacturing-support role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Issue, receive, track, and return cutting tools, toolboxes, holders, inserts, accessories, and special tooling used in CNC machining operations.
- Verify incoming and returned tooling is complete, identifiable, and in acceptable condition; coordinate inspection, repair, sharpening, replacement, or disposition as required.
- Maintain accurate records of tools issued, returned, replaced, sharpened, repaired, scrapped, or removed from service.
- Inspect returned toolboxes and confirm required standard and special tooling is present and accounted for.
- Keep the tool crib clean, orderly, labeled, and organized; use inventory systems, spreadsheets, or manufacturing databases to support inventory accuracy.
- Communicate shortages, recurring tool issues, unusual wear, and missing special tooling to the appropriate manufacturing contact.
- Follow applicable tools-identification, storage, handling, safety, quality, security, traceability, customer, and export-control procedures.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, inventory records, tool lists, and safety procedures.
- Basic to moderate computer proficiency and reliable record-keeping skills.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, timely shop-floor support, and professional communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in CNC machining, precision manufacturing, tool crib, tooling, inventory control, shipping/receiving, or manufacturing support.
- Familiarity with cutting tools, inserts, tool holders, drills, end mills, reamers, saws, gages, or related machining supplies.
- Experience with tooling-management software, ERP/MRP systems, barcode systems, or computerized inventory records.
