SAP Ariba Technical Consultant (ABAP / Integration)

Our client, a leading healthcare company, seeks a senior SAP Ariba Technical Consultant with deep SAP ABAP development expertise to support a global healthcare organization’s Source-to-Pay transformation. This is a hands-on, development-heavy role: you will build and maintain the custom ABAP code, enhancements, and integrations that connect SAP Ariba with SAP S/4HANA and ECC across multiple regions. You will work closely with procurement, finance, IT, and compliance teams in a regulated environment where code quality, auditability, and system reliability directly affect the supply of products and services that reach patients.

This is a contractual role for 6 months (with high possibility of extensions/ conversion) where the selected candidate would be required to support CET/EST business hours.

The Role:

ABAP Development

• Design, develop, test, and optimize custom ABAP objects (RICEFW: Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms, and Workflows) supporting Ariba-integrated P2P and S2P processes.
  
• Build and modify enhancements using BAdIs, user exits, customer exits, implicit/explicit enhancement points, and the Enhancement Framework, particularly within MM, FI, and the Ariba integration add-on (CIG add-on for S/4HANA/ECC).
  
• Develop and extend IDoc processing, including custom segments, IDoc extensions, partner profiles, and inbound/outbound function modules for purchase orders, invoices, goods receipts, and master data.
  
• Write custom RFC- and BAPI-enabled function modules and leverage standard BAPIs for document creation and updates.
  
• Develop in S/4HANA using modern ABAP: ABAP 7.4/7.5+ syntax, Object-Oriented ABAP, CDS views, AMDP, and ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP) where applicable.
  
• Build and maintain OData services (SEGW and RAP-based) to expose S/4HANA data to Ariba, BTP, and Fiori applications.
  
• Develop Adobe Forms / SmartForms for purchasing and invoice output, and custom workflows for approvals and exception handling.
  
• Perform performance tuning using SQL Trace (ST05), Runtime Analysis (SAT), Code Inspector (SCI), and ATC, and remediate custom code for S/4HANA compatibility.
  
• Support data migration and conversion programs (LSMW, BDC, LTMC/Migration Cockpit) for vendor master, purchasing info records, contracts, and open POs.
  

Ariba Integration

• Design, build, and support integrations between SAP Ariba and SAP S/4HANA/ECC using SAP Cloud Integration Gateway (CIG), SAP BTP Integration Suite (CPI), and/or SAP PI/PO.
  
• Configure and support Ariba modules including Buying & Invoicing, Guided Buying, Sourcing, Contracts, SLP, and Ariba Network.
  
• Develop and troubleshoot cXML, IDoc, and API-based interfaces for POs, order confirmations, ASNs, invoices, and master data replication.
  
• Build and maintain PunchOut and hosted catalog integrations, and lead the technical side of supplier enablement and e-invoicing setup.
  
• Use Ariba APIs (Operational Reporting, Supplier Data, Procurement APIs) for reporting, analytics, and automation.
  

Delivery, Quality & Compliance

• Write technical specifications, follow ABAP coding standards, and participate in peer code reviews.
  
• Prepare unit test documentation and support integration, regression, UAT, cutover, and hypercare.
  
• Manage transports through the landscape (SE09/SE10, ChaRM, or similar) under formal change control.
  
• Provide L2/L3 production support, debug interface and program failures, and deliver permanent fixes.
  
• Ensure solutions comply with SOX controls, GxP and computer system validation requirements, and data privacy regulations (GDPR, HIPAA).
  

Requirements

• 8+ years of SAP ABAP development experience, with at least 4 years in Ariba-integrated environments.
  
• At least 2 full-lifecycle SAP Ariba implementations or global rollouts in a technical/development role.
  
• Expert-level ABAP: classical and Object-Oriented ABAP, ALV, Dialog/Module Pool programming, BDC, function modules, RFCs, and BAPIs.
  
• Strong hands-on experience with enhancement techniques (BAdIs, user exits, enhancement framework) in MM and FI.
  
• Deep IDoc expertise, including extensions, custom processing logic, and error handling (WE02/WE05/WE19/BD87).
  
• S/4HANA development experience including CDS views, AMDP, OData services, and new ABAP syntax.
  
• Hands-on experience with SAP CIG and BTP Integration Suite (CPI); PI/PO a plus.
  
• Strong knowledge of cXML, web services (SOAP/REST), and Ariba APIs.
  
• Solid functional understanding of P2P/S2P processes and S/4HANA MM–FI integration points.
  
• Experience in a regulated industry (healthcare, pharmaceutical, medical device, or life sciences) with formal documentation and change-control processes.
  
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with global teams across time zones.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• SAP Certified Development Associate/Professional (ABAP) and/or SAP Ariba certification.
  
• Experience with RAP, ABAP Cloud, SAP BTP ABAP Environment (Steampunk), or side-by-side extensions.
  
• Custom code migration and remediation experience for ECC-to-S/4HANA conversions.
  
• Experience with Fiori/UI5 development or Fiori app extensions.
  
• Computer system validation (CSV) or GAMP 5 experience.
  
• Exposure to multi-country localization and e-invoicing mandates (e.g., XRechnung/ZUGFeRD, SDI, CFDI).
  
• Familiarity with SAP Ariba Central Procurement or SAP Business Network.
