Director of Nursing

We are looking for  Director of Nursing to our hospital in Dublin.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic nursing leadership in collaboration with the Hospital Management Team, Clinical Director, CEO and senior nursing leadership to develop and implement an integrated nursing strategy aligned with the Hospital’s strategic objectives.
  

• Lead workforce planning, staffing structures and skill-mix development to ensure the effective deployment of nursing and healthcare staff while meeting patient needs, regulatory requirements and organisational priorities.
  

• Provide professional and operational leadership to nursing staff, supporting Nurse Managers and clinical teams in delivering safe, efficient, patient-centred care and promoting a culture of accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.
  

• Manage nursing resources effectively, including pay and non-pay budgets, staffing, bed utilisation and theatre capacity, ensuring expenditure remains within approved budgets and delivers value for money.
  

• Lead the development of recruitment, retention, education, training and professional development strategies, promoting nursing innovation, research, evidence-based practice and the organisation as an employer of choice.
  

• Ensure high standards of clinical governance, patient safety and quality of care through compliance with NMBI, HIQA, JCI, JAG and other relevant statutory, regulatory and professional standards.
  

• Lead and support quality improvement initiatives across nursing services, including infection prevention and control, advanced nursing practice, medication management, hygiene, professional regulation, risk management, clinical incidents and patient involvement.
  

• Oversee nursing operations including bed management, patient flow, staffing allocations, ward rounds and service performance, using KPIs, audits and management reports to monitor outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
  

• Build effective relationships with patients, families, nursing and multidisciplinary teams, Hospital Management, HR, Finance, healthcare organisations, the HSE and academic institutions to promote collaboration, communication and positive employee and patient experiences.
  

• Represent the Hospital and wider healthcare group at regional and national levels on professional nursing matters, promote the organisation’s mission, vision and values, and identify opportunities for innovation, technology, research, partnerships and service development.
  

Requirements

• Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), with a recognised third-level qualification in Nursing and/or Healthcare Management.
  

• Hold or be working towards a relevant Master’s qualification in Leadership, Management or Business Administration, with a postgraduate clinical qualification desirable.
  

• Have substantial acute hospital nursing experience, including a minimum of five years’ experience in a senior nursing management role, with strong people management and change management experience.
  

• Demonstrate experience in budgeting and financial management, resource planning and delivering operational results while ensuring effective use of resources and value for money.
  

• Demonstrate strong strategic and operational leadership skills, with a proven ability to lead service innovation, manage change, motivate specialist professionals and implement improvements in complex healthcare environments.
  

• Have proven experience in multidisciplinary and collaborative working, with strong communication, relationship-building, influencing, decision-making and team management skills, including the ability to provide constructive feedback and manage competing priorities.
  

• Demonstrate a strong commitment to patient-centred care and the organisation’s values, with desirable experience in implementing healthcare quality management systems and the ability to apply evidence-based decision-making to support quality, safety and continuous improvement.
