We are seeking an authoritative and highly experienced Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI) or Seasoned CWI with 10+ years of dedicated experience in pressure vessel and tank fabrication. This senior-level role requires an uncompromising commitment to quality and a profound understanding of applicable codes (including ASME Section VIII, Section IX, Section V, B31.3, and API 650/653). The ideal candidate will provide expert technical oversight on complex fabrication projects, lead inspection operations, and ensure absolute compliance with all project specifications, integrated quality manuals, and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform and oversee advanced in-process and final inspections of pressure vessels and storage tanks, ensuring strict conformance with engineering drawings, project specifications, and applicable codes.

  • Conduct comprehensive layout, fit-up, and dimensional inspections of shell courses, heads, nozzles, internals, and support structures using precision measurement instruments.

  • Review, approve, and verify compliance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).

  • Provide expert-level interpretation and application of requirements from ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, API 650, API 653, and customer-specific process specifications.

  • Coordinate and oversee advanced Nondestructive Testing (NDT) activities, reviewing and validating RT, UT, MT, and PT results in alignment with ASNT standards.

  • Identify, document, and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), working directly with project engineers, third-party inspectors, and fabrication teams to develop and implement corrective actions.

  • Review and approve traveler documents, weld maps, inspection/test plans (ITPs), and final documentation turnover packages prior to pressure testing and delivery.

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior QC inspectors and fabrication staff on best practices, code interpretation, and defect prevention.

Requirements

  • Perform in-process and final inspections of pressure vessels, ensuring conformance with project specifications, drawings, and applicable codes.

  • Layout and dimensional inspection of shell courses, heads, nozzles, internals, and support structures using appropriate precision measurement tools.

  • Conduct fit-up inspections, ensuring proper joint preparation, alignment, and compliance with WPSs.

  • Review and verify weld maps, traveler documents, and inspection/test plans (ITPs).

  • Understand and verify compliance with welding processes, WPS/PQR requirements, and welder qualifications.

  • Monitor welding activities, ensuring compliance with quality requirements and procedural specifications.

  • Interface with project managers, engineers, and third-party inspectors to resolve quality issues.

  • Interpret and apply requirements from applicable codes and standards such as ASME Section VIII, IX, B31.3, API 650, or customer-specific specifications.

  • Prepare and maintain accurate inspection records, NCRs, and reports.

  • Assist in NDT coordination and review of NDT results (PT, MT, RT, UT) as required.

  • Support final documentation turnover and pressure testing activities.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 10+ years of dedicated, hands-on QC inspection experience specifically in heavy steel, pressure vessel, and tank fabrication environments.

  • Certifications: Active AWS Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI) certification, or a highly seasoned CWI with commensurate high-level experience.

  • Code Expertise: Deep, working knowledge of ASME (Sections V, VIII, IX), B31.3, and API standards (650, 653).

  • NDT Proficiency: Advanced understanding of NDT methodologies. Current or former ASNT Level II or Level III certifications in multiple methods (PT, MT, RT, UT) are highly preferred but not required.

  • Technical Skills: Exceptional proficiency in reading complex fabrication drawings, isometrics, and welding symbols, with a strict understanding of material traceability, MTRs, and heat number control.

  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving abilities, authoritative communication skills, and the capacity to enforce quality management system architecture effectively on the shop floor.

Benefits

Initial 3-to-6-month contract with the potential for direct permanent placement.
