Position Summary

JW Affinity IT is seeking a System Administrator to support the technology environment of a local municipality. This position is responsible for maintaining reliable, secure, and efficient server, identity, cloud, and end-user computing services that support municipal employees and public services.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience administering Microsoft-based enterprise environments, resolving infrastructure incidents, maintaining system availability, and supporting users across multiple departments and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services, and print services.
  
• Manage Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Entra ID, and user licensing.
  
• Provision, modify, and disable user accounts, security groups, permissions, and access rights.
  
• Monitor server availability, system performance, storage capacity, backups, and scheduled jobs.
  
• Install, configure, patch, and maintain physical and virtual servers.
  
• Support VMware, Hyper-V, or comparable virtualization technologies.
  
• Troubleshoot escalated incidents involving operating systems, applications, authentication, connectivity, and endpoint configurations.
  
• Assist with endpoint management using Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Configuration Manager, or similar tools.
  
• Support backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and business continuity activities.
  
• Maintain system documentation, configuration records, inventories, diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
  
• Apply security updates and remediate identified vulnerabilities in coordination with cybersecurity personnel.
  
• Participate in infrastructure upgrades, technology refreshes, migrations, and municipal IT projects.
  
• Provide responsive support to employees working across municipal offices and public-service locations.
  
• Participate in scheduled after-hours maintenance or an on-call rotation when required.
  

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Three to five years of professional experience administering Microsoft enterprise systems.
  
• Working knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Microsoft 365.
  
• Experience supporting virtualized server environments.
  
• Experience troubleshooting server, endpoint, authentication, and application-related issues.
  
• Understanding of backup, recovery, patch management, and system-monitoring practices.
  
• Ability to document technical configurations and communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical personnel.
  
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience.
  
• Ability to successfully complete any background screening required for access to municipal systems and facilities.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting a city, county, public-sector organization, school district, or similarly distributed enterprise.
  
• Experience with Azure, Entra ID, Intune, or hybrid cloud environments.
  
• Familiarity with IT service management processes and ticketing platforms.
  
• Microsoft, CompTIA Server+, Azure Administrator, or comparable certification.
  
• Knowledge of CJIS, NIST, or other public-sector technology and security requirements.
