As part of its continued commercial growth, the company seeks an experienced and results-oriented Business Development & Sales Manager to strengthen its market presence, expand its customer portfolio and accelerate revenue generation.
Job Purpose
The Business Development & Sales Manager will be responsible for identifying, developing and converting business opportunities for the company's mechanical and electrical products, accessories, equipment and engineering solutions.
The role requires a commercially driven professional with a strong understanding of the building and construction ecosystem, established industry relationships and the ability to engage effectively with contractors, consultants, architects, developers, interior designers, procurement professionals and other key decision-makers.
The successful candidate will lead customer acquisition efforts, manage strategic accounts, develop a sustainable sales pipeline and contribute directly to revenue growth, market expansion and long-term customer relationships.
Beyond achieving sales targets, the role will require the ability to understand customer requirements, communicate the technical and commercial value of MEP solutions, coordinate internal resources and support successful order conversion and fulfilment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development & Market Expansion

Develop and execute business development initiatives to grow sales of mechanical and electrical products, equipment, accessories and related building solutions.

Identify new business opportunities within the construction, real estate development, commercial buildings, residential development and infrastructure markets.

Prospect and engage potential customers, including building contractors, MEP contractors, consultants, architects, interior designers, developers and procurement teams.

Establish and maintain a structured pipeline of qualified prospects and business opportunities.

Identify emerging market segments, strategic partnerships and distribution opportunities that can strengthen the company's commercial position.

Support the development and implementation of sales strategies aligned with business growth objectives.

Proactively pursue opportunities arising from new construction projects, building upgrades, renovations and engineering installations.
2. Sales Execution & Revenue Growth

Drive the sales process from lead generation and customer engagement through quotation, negotiation, order confirmation and transaction closure.

Achieve assigned sales, revenue and customer acquisition targets.

Conduct customer meetings, product presentations and solution discussions to demonstrate the value of the company's offerings.

Understand customer specifications, project requirements and purchasing priorities to recommend suitable products and solutions.

Work with relevant internal teams to develop commercially competitive quotations and proposals.

Negotiate pricing and commercial terms within approved company policies and authorisation limits.

Monitor outstanding quotations, follow up on pending opportunities and improve sales conversion rates.

Identify opportunities for repeat purchases, cross-selling and upselling across existing customer accounts.

Support profitable revenue growth by maintaining appropriate attention to pricing, margins and commercial risks.
3. Key Account Management & Customer Relationships

Build and maintain productive relationships with existing customers and strategically important accounts.

Develop relationships with key influencers and decision-makers throughout the construction and building-services value chain.

Maintain regular engagement with customers to understand their project pipelines, procurement needs and future business requirements.

Ensure timely and professional responses to customer inquiries, quotation requests, complaints and commercial concerns.

Coordinate with relevant teams to resolve customer service issues and strengthen customer satisfaction.

Develop account growth plans for high-potential customers and maintain a consistent programme of client visits and follow-up activities.

Promote long-term customer loyalty through reliability, responsiveness and solution-oriented engagement.
4. Technical Product Knowledge & Solution Selling

Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of the company's mechanical and electrical product portfolio.

Understand the applications, specifications and commercial advantages of relevant MEP products and building-services solutions.

Engage customers in technical and commercial discussions, recognising when specialist engineering support is required.

Collaborate with technical and engineering teams to ensure that proposed products and solutions are appropriate for customer requirements.

Communicate product benefits, quality considerations, installation applications and value propositions clearly to prospective customers.

Stay informed about developments in HVAC, electrical installations, mechanical building services and related construction technologies.
5. Market Intelligence & Competitive Positioning

Monitor industry trends, construction activity, competitor offerings, pricing developments and customer purchasing behaviour.

Gather market intelligence on major projects, contractors, developers and procurement opportunities.

Identify changes in customer demand and recommend adjustments to sales approaches or product positioning.

Provide feedback on customer preferences, product availability, pricing competitiveness and emerging market requirements.

Represent the company professionally at industry exhibitions, trade events, business meetings and networking opportunities.

Develop professional networks that improve the company's visibility and access to qualified business opportunities.
6. Internal Coordination & Sales Fulfilment

Collaborate with commercial, technical, procurement, logistics and other relevant teams to support effective sales execution.

Coordinate product availability, delivery expectations, order documentation and customer requirements.

Ensure accurate communication of customer specifications and agreed commercial terms to relevant internal stakeholders.

Track customer orders and support timely resolution of fulfilment-related issues.
-
Work with finance and other responsible teams to follow up on payment documentation and outstanding customer obligations where required.

Identify operational bottlenecks affecting customer satisfaction or sales performance and recommend improvements.
7. Sales Planning, Reporting & Performance Management

Prepare regular sales activity reports, pipeline updates, revenue forecasts and business development summaries.

Maintain accurate records of prospects, customer interactions, quotations, negotiations and sales outcomes.

Monitor key sales indicators, including lead generation, pipeline value, conversion rates, revenue achievement and customer retention.

Evaluate the effectiveness of business development initiatives and recommend corrective actions where necessary.

Maintain disciplined follow-up practices and ensure that sales opportunities progress through defined stages.

Provide management with actionable insights on market opportunities, customer trends, commercial risks and growth prospects.
Requirements
Educational Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree or relevant diploma in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, Engineering, Building Technology or a related discipline.

An educational or professional background combining commercial expertise with technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical or building-services products will be an advantage.

Relevant sales, business development or professional marketing certifications are desirable but not mandatory.
Professional Experience
-
Minimum of 7 years of relevant sales or business development experience within the building materials, mechanical/electrical products, building solutions, home furnishings, construction or real estate-related industries.

Demonstrable experience selling products or solutions to contractors, developers, architects, consultants, interior designers or other stakeholders within the built environment.

Proven ability to generate leads, develop business relationships, manage sales opportunities and convert prospects into revenue.

Experience managing customer accounts, preparing commercial proposals and negotiating sales transactions.

Strong familiarity with the Lagos construction and building-services market.
-
Previous experience in MEP, HVAC, mechanical equipment or electrical product sales is highly desirable.
