Compliance Tax Accountant

The Compliance & Tax Accountant (CTA) serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for all tax and compliance matters. Your primary goal is to recommend effective tax strategies that comply with laws and promote our company’s financial well-being.

In this role, you will manage state and local tax filings, analyze regulations, monitor industry trends, file censuses, and manage state and local tax accounts. You will serve as the point person on state and local tax audits, stay heavily involved in annual tax returns, and assist with ad hoc projects alongside monthly, quarterly, and annual filings.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Prepare state and local tax filings, payments, documentation, and reports.
  • Research complex tax issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Manage and maintain the company’s tax database.
  • Identify tax savings opportunities and recommend strategies to improve profits.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance by submitting required information to federal, state, and local authorities.
  • Administer the B&O tax program, file monthly taxes, and evaluate program policies and protocols.
  • Ensure sales tax compliance, including monthly journal entries, invoice reviews, and data gathering.
  • Manage facility property appraisals, including filing and coordinating property tax payments.
  • Assist with the production and distribution of annual K-1s to company shareholders.
  • Complete compliance reporting, including censuses and related filings.
  • Confidently manage business licensing records, filings, and maintenance.
  • Lead and support internal and third-party company audits.
  • Research and apply for tax credits, grants, and policies that reduce overall tax burden.
  • Prepare and file annual Alaska DOR Fisheries Business Tax reports and monthly/quarterly local Alaska fisheries tax reports.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with Alaska state guidelines, rules, and regulations.
  • Track industry tax trends and alert internal stakeholders to maintain compliance and minimize monetary impact.

  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word templates/automation, Excel functions, pivot tables, graphs) and ERP systems.

Requirements

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience as a Tax Compliance Manager, Tax Accountant, or similar role.
  • Experience in consumer goods, food & beverage, or seafood industries preferred.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Proven expertise in spreadsheets, databases, and financial software applications.
Work Environment & Schedule
  • Location: Corporate office in Seattle, WA.
  • Schedule: Hybrid setup available for the right candidate (minimum 3 days per week in-office).


Benefits

Salary & Compensation
  • Base Pay Range: $75,000 – $90,000 per year (commensurate with location, complexity, experience, and skills).
  • Bonus: Eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
