Junior Financial Consultant

Westhafen Consulting is looking for a Junior Financial Consultant to support the written work behind the firm's advice. Every view issued from this practice has to be clear, checked and ready on the day it is promised, and much of the work of getting it there will sit with you.

The role
This is a permanent, full-time position, and it is fully remote, working from Berlin, Germany. You will work alongside a named author who signs the memoranda, and your task is to keep the drafting and the file moving so that the author's time goes to the question itself.
The work suits someone who writes carefully, reads a set of figures twice, and prefers to finish a document on time and then discuss it. You do not need a long record in advisory work. You need to be accurate, discreet and steady with a deadline.

What you will do

1. Prepare a first draft of a commissioned memorandum from notes, earlier correspondence and the client's own material, keeping the scope as the author set it.
2. Check the figures in a draft against the source documents, and note any difference before the document goes to sign-off.
3. Keep the file in order: signed copies, the version history, the questions still open and the dates on which a view should be reconsidered.
4. Handle correspondence with the office of a client, confirming dates, sending drafts for comment and recording what was agreed.
5. Organise a review meeting before commitment, including the papers the author needs and a written note of what was settled.
6. Keep the books for the practice, tracking hours against the cap and making sure each piece of work is filed under the right client.

A typical week
Monday usually begins with a draft that has to reach the author by the end of the day, assembled from material you collected the week before. The author returns it with comments, often in the margins and often terse, and you work through them with the source documents open beside you. By Thursday the document is with the client's office for confirmation of the facts, and on Friday it is signed, copied to the file and closed. What you learn each week comes from seeing how a document changes between your draft and the signed page.

What you bring

• Careful writing in English, with sentences you are willing to defend.
• Attention to detail, especially with numbers and dates.
• The habit of meeting a deadline without being reminded.
• Discretion with material a client shares, which stays between the author and the client.
• Comfort working independently from a remote desk, and asking when something is unclear.
• A willingness to take comments on a draft and revise it again.

Useful but not required

• German, for correspondence with Berlin offices and local paperwork.
• Studies in law, economics or a related field.
• Familiarity with document tools and version control.
